I once saw Annette Bening, who has been completely nude on film, on Sesame Street. It's a little hypocritical to fire Melanie Martinez for this minor "offense".
my dauhgter watched her show every night before going to bed and ever since Melanie was fired we have had a very hard time trying to get her to settle down...please tel PBS I said thank you so much for screwing up our routine.
Please bring back Melanie. I expect better than this from PBS. My son loves Melanie, and I have always thought she was a good influence. Stop this doo-doo and start acting like a big TV network!
If everyone got fired for something they did in the past that there current employer didn't agree with , no one would have a job in this pseudomoral society that we live in this country. Its time that we start teaching and educating rather than denying and prohibiting.
What are you people thinking? How could you fire her because she made a comedy film about anal sex? Even if she did straight up porn you shouldn't have fired her.
I don't believe that Melanie's desision in the past should affect her standing on PBS Kids Sprout. I have watched her with my kids and have infact paid extra through DirectTV so that they may watch her show. She has done nothing to on her show to lose my trust. If anything, she has proven to my wife and I to be very wholesome and uplifting. My little girl and boy both have expressed their deep disappointment to me about Melanie not returning to the show. Please reconsider your decision and let this very talented actress continue to bring happiness to these little kids lives.
Please being Melanie back. The videos she made were obviously parodies made long ago and were obviously never intended for children's viewing. She does a great job with the show and my children will miss her.
because two comedy bits, totalling 60 seconds, should not affect anyone's life in such so negatively. The response was unfair and heavy handed. It is frightening how closed and judgemental our "free" society has become.
I am a 7th grade teacher that teaches mostly hispanic students in a suburb of Chicago. I believe that children especially hispanic children need to see positive role models. I have never watched the show but from reading some of the comments I can assume that Ms. Martinez is very good at her job. I believe that she should get her job back. But..... I am cynical enough to realize that this won't happen. There are political realities taking shape leading up to the national elections. Conservative groups have pounded into PBS in the past over supposed inappropriate material as well as the Nation Endowment for the Arts. It is obviously absurd to fire someone for something that wasn't PC before she took a job, but that is current conservative Republican thinking. I don't hate Republican's either. There have been many admiral political leaders from that party in the past. Unfortunately, that isn't the case today. Ms. Martinez's ethnicity may be a factor as well. Hispanics are extremely conservative in the area of sex. They generally march in tune to whatever the Pope is currently saying. This is one of the reasons Mexico has so many problems. My point is that this may not be a conservative issue at all but politically liberal Democrats trying to hold onto the Hispanic vote by pandering to their religious beliefs. It's a posibility but since the Democratic party hasn't had a lot of influence of late.....
I am a mother of two 7 and 11. My kids have grown up only watching PBS. I am appalled that you fired Melanie Martinez for something she did so long ago! I expected much better from you PBS-reconsider and get her back on!!
THEY ARE SO SILLY DOING THAT... I WONDER WHERE IN THE CELEBRITY WORLD THEY WOULD FIND SOMETHING THAT HAS NOT SHOWED OFF THEIR BODY ON TELEVISION ALREADY.. THEY ARE ALL MESSING UP THE MEDIA BY THIS ACT.. BUT MELANIE DID SOMETHING POSITIVE... HMMMM!!!!

It seems cowardly to fire someone for an ancient video made before she was hired. If she had done it recently, since being established as a children's TV host, it might be a different matter. Her current work is not an issue. Her past work shouldn't be either.
This is rediculous! She is a wonderful host for The Good Night Show and my daughter misses seeing her very much. My God, if everybody was scrutinized this much over thier past, there would be nobody in charge of this great country we live in!

How hypocritical that George Carlin (the father of off color humor) can narrate a show on Sprout with Thomas the Tank Engine and yet Melanie Martinez is fired. Our viewing of PBS shows has come to a halt.
I think you people at PBS need to grow a sense of humor. Besides, How can a couple of web videos possibly be harmful? It's not like kids don't have access to whatever they want anyway.
I'm sure that if the boys at PBS had something come out like this when they were trying to climb the corporate ladder, they would hope this type of thing wouldn't lose them their jobs...
I'm sure that 99% of people would have never known that Melanie made these 2 very short clips had PBS not fired her. Get a grip PBS!! There are many children who are upset at her speedy departure from a hasty decision, by your network!!
Melanie past does not impact her present image and preception by myself, my wife, my oldest son (8 yrs)and my youngest (3 1/2 yrs - Melanie's biggest fan). You, PBS, were wrong in firing her and Sprout "The Good Night Show" will never be the same.

Rediculous decision. I have never even heard of the videos so how would my 2 year old? As if any of the execs at PBS don't have some sort of past. They should all be fired just for being stupid.

What ever happened to Free Speech? I could understand her firing if she appeared in a video that her audience (kids) might see. She was performing a comedy routine, not filming a porno. As John Stossel would say, "Give Me a Break!"
