i feel maybee her choice of her 2 ,30 sec clips was not her best,,i think she would agree, she moved on into childrens tv,and does great work,,foregive a minor mistake,,i know i have foregotten..do the same pbs
We have enjoyed watching the "Good Night Show" and miss Melanie Martinez greatly. By now means should we be judged by what we did in our youth. Bring her back and let my daughter continue to enjoy her singing and fun. My daughter asked me the other day why there was no let's make a craft song on. Please rethink your decision about Melanie Martinez.
she is a grown woman and until you (pbs)brought the videos to the attn of biased viewers who knew nothing about it beforehand,it was not a problem, just the past.Adults have rights too,not just the parents you bank on to support your shows.Kids did not ever have a clue about this,so unless the angry parents never heard of or seen a stand-up comic, let alone not laughed like everyone else, they could had left well enough alone.
My 6-year old loves watching Sprout, and the Good Night Show in particular. These videos were done 7 years ago, well before Melanie became the host of the Good Night Show. Sure they are not appropriate for preschoolers, but who would let there little ones watch them. They should have no influence on how good of a children's show host she was. Melanie has done a great job on Sprout and should not have gotten fired because of this. Please bring her back. This is really a double standard, considering some of the things George Carlin has done in the past and his episodes as the narrator of Thomas the Tank Engine are still showed on Sprout. To whoever made the decision to fire Melanie, please reconsider it.
it is a shame that this girl was fired over something she did in the past. my kids age 2 and 6, both loved melanie at night, please reconsider pbs and bring her back. if not the p.b.s. will stand for PURE BULL SHIT!
What Ms. Martinez did 7 days ago was to act accountably for events that occurred 7 years ago. According to the "PBS" posting, Ms. Martinez approached the network about the "Technical Virgin" videos produced in 1999. It is this act of accountability that makes Ms. Martinez credible as the host of the "Good Night Show," and as a responsible children's educator.
We are already in 2006. Wake up! Do you think abstinence campaigns will have any effect nowadays? Moreover, do media people think that humor and freedom of expression can be banned?
You cannot forbid nature. You cannot silence humorous expressions. Period
my 2 years has been asking for melanie & i would love to see her back. as a mother, i know we all have things in our past we would rather just stay in the past. we should be judge by the people we have become. Please bring melanie back.
Like many actors before her, Ms. Martinez has done other types of acting jobs that should not reflect upon her ability to host the "Good Night Show". As a parent of 2, who enjoy her character, I oppose her firing! Please bring her back!
They (PBS) claim that they are concerned that the target audience will see the vidoes she is in. But they also say their target audience for the show is ages 3-6. If that age group finds the videos from technicalvirgin.com, I'd be more concerned with their computer skills and the lack of parenting skills. I think she should sue.
I cannot believe that you would fire Melanie Martinez for two 30 second videos that were made seven years ago. If you are going to hold your screen personalities to such high standards, perhaps you should research George Carlin's (the conductor on "Thomas and Friends") resume. Also, you regularly use Dr. Ruth on "Between The Lions" - she has a very long career dealing with sex topics. How dare you exhibit such unforgiving behavior towards Melanie while turning a blind eye to George and Ruth!!!! Shame on you, PBS. What kind of lesson are you teaching our children when you cannot demonstrate forgiveness. SHAME ON YOU.
George Carlin is no less effective and loved as the voice of Thomas the Tank Engine - despite his often crude and vulgar adult comedy. They're separate entities and should be left that way.
I AM SO TIRED OF THE "POWERS THAT BE" INFLICTING THEIR IDEAS OF MORALITY ANYONE WITHIN THEIR SCOPE OF POWER. WHO ARE THEY TO MAKE THOSE DECISIONS FOR OTHERS.
My husband and I have donated to PBS in the past in the support of The Goodnight Show. My daughter, age 2, will be more affected by Melanie leaving than by a short film she most definitely will not see at her age!!!
Don't look for my pledge this "fund drive."
Freedom of speech seems to have no place on PBS. The "network" that prides itself on forward thinking and support of the arts has reared an ugly right wing head, and shown themselves for the money grubbing corprate machine it is.
all publicity is good publicity. i am sure that this move is in her best interest. otherwise i would no nothing about her. she rocks. and i support technical virgins as do the mormons.
