PLEASE bring Melanie back! We love her and as parents I can see how an actress has many sides.
I am the right wing conservative mother of three girls, and I would be proud of any of them who did what Melanie has done. PLEASE reinstate her!
One, it's not like Ms. Martinez advertised her previous work on this children's show; Two, you allow George Carlin to work on Thomas the Tank Engine and the language and content in much of his stand-up and written work is FAR more controversial than anything Ms. Martinez has done. What you have on your hands here is a regrettable double standard that I can only assume is based on her sex. To say that is disappointing from a supposedly unbiased source as PBS is putting it mildly.
Apparently, only virgins can read bedtime stories. It's a pretty sad state of affairs in this country (the list is growing incredibly long) when corporations can't distinguish adults from children.
My toddler loves Sprout and has no idea what a "character" is much less what an actress is or that she had a life outside of "The Goodnight Show." I cannot see how participating in a harmless (and funny) short piece 7 years ago in any way harms Sprout, their image, me, or most importantly, my child. Bring Melanie back (and give her more to do!).
@@@@@@@@@the conservatives!!! and the parents who think they rule the world, get a life,my child does not watch thomas because of george carlin and the other druggie they allowed to narrate, grow up pbs, bring her back or we will mass pickett all stations !!!
This is an outrage. Should the woman have to wear a scarlet letter for the rest of her life for making a JOKE video? My 2 year old daughter doesn't know ANYTHING about the videos she did... she loves her anyway. The powers that be that were involved in this decision need to get a grip.
I believe that Ms. Martinez has done an excellent job hosting the show. There is absolutely no correlation between her prior work and this program. If this is the model, then Sesame Street can no longer have guests like Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O'Donnel both racy and raunchy comics in their early days.
This is America!!! Everyone deserves a second chance. Melanie was a perfect host for Sprouts. What she did 7 years ago has absolutely nothing to do with what she has done today. She is an artist and practiced artistic freedom then. Is this something we don't allow in America anymore. Who the hell is running this country anymore? Remember Vanessa Williams? Remember the spread she did in Penthouse years ago? Now she is everywhere on TV selling electronics and everything else.
Give Melanie her job back!!!!!!
Please bring Melanie back to the Good Night Show. Just because she did something in the past doesn't mean she'll do it again, & she TOLD you about it. Please be sure to know that my 3 daughters miss her!
Frankly, I find the videos to be funny! It's not like a pre-schooler is going to stumble upon them while doing a google search. Heck, it's not like the MAJORITY OF THE POPULATION will accidentally stumble across them. And for those who condemn Melanie, shame on you, you hypocrites. No one is lily white! Shame on PBS for terminating Melanie. My daughter and I are very disappointed.
Plenty of tv/movie/music personalities do things early in their careers that aren't in the best taste. It shouldn't be held against them. They are just trying to be seen and bring home a paycheck.
The firing of Melanie Martinez from Sprout was a cowardly act. I had hoped for better from PBS. She is an actress pursuing her craft. My 2 1/2 year old loved her. I will spread the word of PBS lack of spine wherever I can.
This is extremely petty and stupid of PBS. If they think that preschoolers are going to be surfing the web to find something so obscure...they should worry about the parents of children watching their shows, not their actors.
Unless Melanie signed something stating that she had never done anything inappropriate firing her was wrong. No child who is a viewer of the good night show will see the item in question, and there is no reason why it should be held against her.
I have a 2 year old daughter who loves melanie. She stretches with her and giggles with delight when she heres her voice. It is ignorant to think a 2-6 year old audience cares what the host did before they were born and they will never see. My daughter has lost something and learned people dissappear out of your life for no reason.
We all want what's best for our children but this video made years ago really should have no effect on the TV show being produced now which is enjoyed by many children.
My daughter really enjoys watching Melanie on the Good Night Show. I hardly think a spoof she did several years earlier is reason to take her off the program.
My daughter loves melanie and watches almost everynight. She is almost 2 and asked wheres mel-nee. She will never know what melanie did years ago to keep food on the table.
