my nine-month-old twins loved Melanie. If you fired her, better make sure you don't show any Thomas the Tank Engine episodes narrated by George Carlin. Rumor has it he's said some things that might undermine the credibility of his character....
My nieces and nephews asked why she was gone. When I could develop a really good reason why, I decided that her dismissal was unjustified. Bringing her back is the best thing to do.
because Sprout programs promote treating others with compassion and respect, which enables me to let bygones be bygones and judge Ms. Martinez on the excellent work she's done on the Good Night Show.
because the rationale for Melanie's firing is presumptuious. Don't proctect my kids for me, that's my job.
I alone am responsible for what my kids see and hear. That silly little video is of no consequence. BRING MELANIE BACK!
My daughter still askes for Melanie. We all miss her.
Come on. How is my two year old son going to be underminded by a video he likely will never see. She did a really nice job in her current role. PBS is way off base here.
Regardless of her past, Melanie Martinez was a fabulous host of the Good Night show. I hate to think that she has left the show, for which she was a fabulous fit, just to appease a select few. Kobe Bryant is still a featured favorite on Nick - despite his past, yet this trivial bleamish on Melanie Martinez' record will take a beloved part of so many children's lives off the air.
i have to say that my child adores melanie, and the firing of this woman in order to protect the "image" of a "public" organization is dissapointing, if not appalling. i condemn pbs' actions, and am signing this petition with hope that justice will be done.
because first of all, by the time our children are old enough to even know what she did they won't be watching the Good Night Show anymore and at that time I'm sure they will care less. Also, like other parents have said, you use George Carlin and Alec Baldwin. They are both still acting and are quite foul-mouthed and explicit. Your PATHETIC! How could you hurt all the children? They LOVE her.
Good luck Melanie!
unless you are planning to pull episodes of other shows off PBS/sprout programming, featuring actors who have done MUCH worse comedies/dramas... i think you are promoting a horrible double standard
Bring Melanie Back! she is *wonderful* and *soothing* to watch with my toddler. Cant believe PBS would do such a "horrible" thing to a ~*GREAT!*~ person. I wouldn't doubt a lawsuit coming.
I feel Melanie's firing is a complete knee-jerk, over-reaction on the part of PBS/Sprout. Hey, I showed my 1 yr old twins the Technical Virgin clip and they thought it was hilarious. JUST KIDDING! That's the point, they would never see it (let alone understand it)! Though they love watching Melanie every night before bed.
How hypocritical of PBS to fire a woman over a joke from 7 years ago, when they have used male comedians like George Carlin in the past (and as much as I like Carlin, we all know how adult-oriented his humor is. As a woman, I find the double-standard disturbing and offensive.
Melanie was good at what she did for PBS--and that was entertaining young children. I hope her career soars now like what happened to Vanessa Williams---just as a slap in the face to the overly righteous people out there that can't see past a joke.
Good Luck Melanie!
Melanie Martinez is getting a raw deal; George Carlin, Alec Baldwin and the many rock stars who come on Sesame Stree as quests have very colorful pasts and have done more harmful things for our young people.
Melanie is a staple in our household! Bring her back! As an American/Hispanic family, Melanie was a great role model for our two girls. It's outrageous to bring up her past like this! The president of our country is a former alchoholic and drug user, for crying out loud. Bring Melanie Back!
My granddaughter watches Melanie all the time and is really connected to her. Melanie's previous work in no way conflicts with her work on Sprout. They are totally separate audiences. Also, PBS employs actors/comedians like Alec Baldwin, George Carlin, and Whoopi Goldberg, who have done far more racy things than the technical virgin videos. Also, the works of the above named actoes are more widely available for children to see.
It is hypocritical of PBS to fire Ms. Martinez over her work done previously to working for them.
If PBS does not restore Ms. Martinez, I believe she will earn a substansial settlement in a wrongful termination lawsuit.

I support this petition
Your action is hypocritical, misguided and wrong. I have viewed the videos in question and I have watched the Good Night Show with my four year old daughter for over a year. Sprout is on my list. And by the way, Star sucks.
i have two questions. first; didn't the hypocrites at PBS (Pure Bull S*#@), do a background check on Melanie? second; should't the president be fired? he got caught on tape giving the prime minister of germany a back rub. Also, he got caught swearing in a conversation with Tony Blair. talk about inaproppriate behavior. let's turn over every rock and see what is really under them. I'd be willing to bet that some of the folks at PBS have been caught in some sore of awkward position before. most of you have been to college. let's talk to some of your old classmates. LET'S GET REAL PEOPLE. remember this "people in glass houses should't throw stones". My donations are going somewhere else. does anyone remember Mr. Rogers or Captain Kangaroo. whoooooooa! but that was OK......SERIOUSLY!....bri ng Melanie back....PBS goodnight show is off the air in my house.....Disney is where my dial is tuned for now on.......
