Dear PBS Sprout,
Over the past several days, we have noticed that Melanie on the Good Night Show had not been appearing. At first we just figured that she was on Vacation. Out of curiosity of when she would be returning, we have visited the website for our very first time to find that she would no longer be returning. I must admit that we were astounded! Melanie on the ‘Good Night Show’, which is primarily geared towards Pre-Schoolers, is by far our 8 Month old daughter’s favorite thing to watch. Melanie has not only the face, but also the pleasant voice that captures the attention no matter what our child is doing. The smiles on her face when Melanie appears are worth writing this email!
We then proceeded to do some research into the reason and were linked to the video clip by a certain article. We were amazed at the lack of severity of the video clip. This ‘short film’ as you call it, would not be seen by children anyways, and by the time a child did see it, he/she would most likely not still be watching SPROUT.
I understand that it is not possible to make everybody happy in a scenario like this, BUT I believe it is the MAJORITY you should please rather then the few people that look to complain about everything and are probably the worst influence on their own children. Sprout teaches day in and day out the people make mistakes. It also teaches compassion and forgiveness. Sprout should practice what it preaches. My feelings for Sprout have changed greatly and have been watching more Noggin over the last week. ‘BLUE’s CLUES’ still airs reruns of Steve regardless of the rumors of his habits.
Thank you for the past 8 months,
Steven, Carolyn, and Chloe
My 3 year old daughter saw the picture of Melanie in the Chicago tribune article and just said, "I really, really miss Melanie. It makes me sad." Bring her back!
I don't mind melanie too much, but sometimes is very booooring they shoul put somebody more fun with more new things to do and less boring, but about the shows that one that my daughter really don't like to watch and I don't like her to watch is JAMES THE CAT that is completely a different thing for children their characters look like they are drunk dirty and high all the time and that show is just not appropiate for kids, so that's my other petition to bring down james the cat!!!
You can't even recognize her!Give her a break...she's an actress for crying out loud.It was obviously a joke...it's not like she did some raunchy sex tape!
I support this petition 100%. My 2 yeard old looks forward to see Melanie and Star at bedtime. It's part of his nightly routine. He's a huge fan of the Goodnight show, as so am I. Who cares what she did 7 years ago. The video is a joke. I thought it was hilarious. Bring Melanie Back!!!
My son loves Melanie and will miss her dearly. He'll never see these spoof commercials she did and neither should any other child. Please, let the parents decide what is appropriate for their children and don't dictate it to us. Bring Melanie back!
My daughter wants to know why Melanie is no longer on. What can I say. One day she is there, and then the next she is gone. My daughter really enjoyed her. I think this is rediculus to fire her for something that happened 7 years ago. If parents aren't concerned then why should you be. Please bring her back.
