Apparently PBS has a double standard when it comes to people that work for them. its ok to fire someone that shows a 15 second video but ok to use someone that has one of the filtiest mouths in the world for a stand up comic. yes i am refering to shining time station and George Carlin. I guess that because he has the money its ok for him to stay working but a mother of 3 gets the ax for a 15 second video she made several years ago probably while still in school or working for someone else. How sad for PBS and the people that want to watch it.
Melanie was a permanant bedtime fixture for my daughter. I am outraged that she was removed from her position. I'm sure that many other children miss her as much as my daughter does.

Three) The persons who made this discussion have more deeper and darker depravity in their respective closets than a spoof parity video.

Melanie did NOT deserve this, and the reasoning behind her dismissal is completely flawed. Get a friggin CLUE, PBS. Your holier-than-thou knee-jerk reaction is beyond reprehensible, and until Melanie is brought back we will no longer support PBS or their affiliates.
we love Melanie. if you are concerned about the potential message of her action, consider what you are saying about free speech, artistic expression, and gender roles in society.
The show is what it is with Melanie... Many other BIG stars appeared in worse and went on to do kids shows. If she were still doing it okay maybe but it was years ago NOT now or in any way conflicting with her Great role on Sprout...
PBS allowsGeorge Carlin to perform Shining Time Station yet he has filthy stand up routines. I believe Susan Sarrandon has been on Sesame Street and also did some scenes in Bull Durham which are not appropriate. This is a stupid move.
Come on Sprout execs how many of you are throwing stones in glass houses.
Tell us what you have done in the last seven years and lets see if you are keeping par to the same standards you are holding Melanie too.
My two year old is already asking why Melanie is not part of our bedtime routine anymore. In this day and age, politicians, rapists, and drug addicts are allowed to change their life and make things better for society - are you going to tell me that Melanie should be punished for her past mistakes? Ted Kennedy can stay on as a Senator but Melanie has been taken from our children. Nice Job Sprout... this family wont be watching anymore...
I don't understand the people at SFGate and whatnot blaming "the religious right." As a member of that group, I don't find anything wrong with Melanie Martinez' background; my little girl would never know about it and it certianly doesn't impact her ability to entertain children.
