Melanie is a person who is loved dearly by my 3 year old son. Since her "vacation" from our nightly routine, it hasnt been as happy without her, infact, we've resulted to viewing Tivo'd Little Einsteins shows because I honestly refuse to view Sprout because if they would fire Melanie for a funny stupid video she did SEVEN years ago, but then have people like George Carlin narrate Thomas the Tank Engine, and Dr. Ruth guest star on Between the Lions, I am not cool with that. BRING BACK MELANIE! SHE WAS HONEST AND ALERTED PRODUCERS ABOUT THE VIDEO BEFORE THEY FOUND OUT ABOUT IT, SHOWS HOW RESPONSIBLE SHE HAS BECOME.
I am a 34 year old father of 2 (4 year old boy and 2 year old girl). This firing is absolutely ridiculous. PBS should be ashamed of itself. I watch the Goodnight Show with my children. Melanie Martinez is very good, she's much better than the asian guy. I just watched the technical virgin video online, who cares. Give the woman her job back. If not I hope she is able to get a job with Noggin or Nickelodeon. In the meantime my children and I must protest PBS Kids. No more Kipper or Pingu until Melanie Martinez is given her job back or PBS at least issues an apology for poor judgement.
Melanie Martinez should not have been terminated from her position on PBS Sprout. Melanie is phenomenal with children. Actions she took years before being associated with PBS Sprout do not in any way compromise her talent in captivating the imaginations of preschoolers. She was a soothing presence for my son, and I hope that she will soon return to PBS Sprout as a result of this petition.
I find the standards appied to Melanie are simply inconsistent with those applied to others who have been involved in "child-inappropri ate" material. To name just a few, please consider the appearances on Sesame Street of Robin Williams, James Gandolfini, Joe Peschi, and Tom Green, just to name a few.
As compared to the "child-inappropri ate" contributions made by the talented actors above, Melanie's pre-PBS Sprout material pales in comparison, and is (in my opinion, and likely in the opinion of most preschoolers who would not even comprehend Melanie's prior work), completely irrelevant to the magic she works on the Good Night Show.
Please bring Melanie back!
I think they are being very discriminatory in what they have done. George Carlin has used foul-mouthed language for years, and he is still doing Thomas the Tank Engine. Are they going to let Carlin go to???
I'm really disappointed in PBS's decison to fire melanie martinez. I saw the videos that were in question and feel it shouldn't be a big deal. My eight month old son adores melanie, and I could care less that she spoofed public service announcement 7 years ago. Its not like my son will ever see that. WE LOVE YOU MELANIE!
It is not very often we find gifted people. Melanie has a true gift when it comes to kids, she has what people call "Angel". PBS, Do not let YOUR angel go. I will not support Sprouts or PBS on this one!
I can understand where PBS means well, but this "film" was made so long ago and I don't personally know many toddlers and preschoolers surfing the net for independent films. My daughter really misses Melanie (not Star, that was annoying)and I enjoyed watching my little girl be active and "interact" with Melanie.
PBS is being hypocritacal. They can air a show called " Magnificent Lovemanking" but want to fire Melanie. My child is more likely to see their show on lovemaking then she is to see some 30 second independant film on the internet.
i think that your decision is not logical. little kids have no idea why she left. i remember when steve left blues clues. it was a huge problem for my son to adjust to joe.
