My little girl loved Melanie, but frankly I found her boring until this! If she was back on PBS my little girl would like it it and at least I could grin knowing about the vidio. I don't believe that PBS should hold it against her.
You can't seriously believe that it is ok to have people like George Carlin and Dr. Ruth on PBS shows while some silly little online spoof made seven years ago is just cause to fire this woman. This is an example of both extremism and sexism. You had a host that really seemed to connect with children and who was doing a good job. What are we supposed to tell these children now? That she made questionable sexual innuendo online seven years ago and can't be on TV anymore? Give me a break, and I hope she sues PBS. And wins.
It's ridiculous to fire her over another acting job she did years ago. Shouldn't this be illegal? Anyway,Melanie was great in BOTH jobs, and my son isn't as interested in The Good Night Show without Melanie.
My 3 yr old loves sprout, and the good night show. We tried watching it last night after being out of town for a while and my daughter was asking where's Melanie, and Hush? She does not like this new format and neither do I.
The Technical Virgin spots have nothing to do with Ms. Martinez's work today as a kid's program personality. It's a shame that PBS Kids Sprout has made this decision, as it only hurts and upsets children. Parents could not care any less.
Melanie was a great source of joy for my toddler every evening on The Goodnight Show. I am so disappointed to see her being penallized for a spoof of a video that was made years ago. The demographic audience for PBS Sprout obviously would not know or even understand the nature of the videos nor probably even ever know they exist. All my toddler is aware of is that one of her favorite TV personalities is gone. Please bring Melanie back, I think letting her go was a mistake you will regret in the longrun.
I grew up on PBS and would like to think that it taught me many things. I would like to say to you that you should be ashamed at your cowardice. You owe it to your audience to show more intelligence.
She was young and it was a joke.
She should not be fired for something she did when she was young. now is now, then is then. Come on, she's not doing PORN
Give her back her job. My 2 & 1/2 year old has no idea about these previous videos she has made, nor will he ever. By the time he would be old enough to care, it wouldn't matter anyhow.
I originally had alot to say, but after reading the posts - it has already been said: Carlin/Baldwin/male double standards, my very upset kids, clip from 7 years ago, etc. etc. etc.
Sprout/PBS Exec's have never cracked inappropriate jokes sometime in their lives? Better banish them as well!!!!
Melanie was a very sweet person who my kids loved. They also love me, but I have made inappropriate jokes at some point in my life - should I stop being their parent?
My kids dont even have a CLUE what the internet is anyway! They are surely at SUCH RISK!
This is all just TOTALLY pathetic. I am RIGHT now changing the channel - no more Sprout programming in my home - too many other alternatives that havent angered my entire household, and upset my children.
I hope Melanie somehow comes out on top. We feel absolutely terrible about this. I am just at a total loss ..... how do I explain this to kids that idolized her so much?
ts.
I have 5 children and watch PBS or at least I did until hearing of this nonsense. PBS shows many male actors that have done more objectionable stuff than this on their shows for children. I refuse to support such blatant discrimination.
Melanie Martinez is a great person and I will not let my children watch PBS unless they give Melanie her job back.I mean everyone has to make a living and that was in her past. She brightened up my 1 year olds day when she say melanie. I pray to god she will find a bedder job then pbs maybe she could get her own tv show on anothe chanel..
