Our son loves Melanie, and misses her dearly. It is hard to explain to him the circumstances why she is no longer on the air. Just give her back her job. The fact that she was fired in the first place is the most ridicluos thing I have ever heard. Keep in mind the videos she did were no more than SNL skits. When she returns we will return to watching PBS Sprout in our house.
I am the father of a 3y/o and a 17 month old. It is an actor's job to portray different people. Your "image" is hurt more by this than allowing her to continue.
WTF is going on???innocent people getting killed by Isrealis ALL the time is 'OK'! BUT Melanie past is a BIG deal!PPL of the world (especially america) wake up!!
this was a job that she did and now she gets fire from this one that is not right. my kids will never see it if the parent is doing there jobs. if you kid see it that id the mom and dad fault!
Everybody is a human being, which means we ALL make mistakes-especally when we are young. I enjoy her talents-I would like to see her back on the "Good Night Show."
My daughter LOVES Melanie... comes running when she hears her voice. Past indescretions should not penalize her now, it was a bad choice, she was young. Bring her back, it will show you have a big heart!
I wonder if any of the PBS Kids Sprout executives have any skeletons in their closets from seven years ago. I expect to hear about mass resignations and firings at PBS Kids Sprout - the network may have to go off the air. Come on people - give Melanie her job back! Yesterday wouldn't be soon enough.
It was just a joke that got leaked. Two through five year old don't need to watch it anyway. If they do, that's on their parents. GIVE HER HER JOB BACK!!
I am writing in regards to the horrible article I read on SFGate.com. WHY WAS MELANIE FIRED? I sort of understand the small reason behind it, but I viewed myself the two 30 second videos she made 7 years ago, and please they weren't anything that I felt made her less of a role model. We watch the Good Night Show every night, partly because of Melanie. My son and daughter absolutely love her. Now I can understand the need to fire her, if she was subjecting my children to inappropriate contents, but HELLO she isn't. I think that PBS made an unfair judgement call. I also think you need to re-hire her!!! My son has drawn many things for her and made her a bunch of cards cause he likes her so much. You can even ask him and he will tell you that he likes her. We have had many "role models" do inappropriate things but they still were able to remain um say the president. I as a parent want to protect my children from sexual predators, but again Melanie's videos were nothing but humor. I DO NOT SEE HER AS A THREAT TO MY CHILDREN, but as an entertainer that my children look forward to seeing.
I also am emailing this article to all my friends and family, so that they can see your ridiculous attempts to protect yourself by removing a fantastic woman that as a family we enjoy watching nightly. Don't take away the one person my children enjoy watching before bed!!!!
I miss Melanie. My mom is helping me type this because I am so small. I cried because I could not see Hush and my friend Melanie. I want to play games and make crafts. Please let her come back so that I can keep the routine I was accustom to.
That video occured seven years ago. It has no bearing on the job she is doing now. Plus, the age group that watches PBS Sprout would never see that video.
It was just a joke! Little kids are not going to know what she did anyway. This is just another knee jerk reaction to something that is not going to have any effect on anybody!
PBS has lost their sense of balance, proportion and humor with this move. I will be getting the new baby channel "293" on Directv instead, bye PBS Kids.................
