Have a sense of humor, and an understanding of past acts. She's an actress. That would be like not allowing any major film actor on a kids show because of a violent film they did in their past.
I don't think that the children watching the show would be aware of her past or that the general public would be aware of her parody. Does anyone at PBS ever watch Saturday Night Live? Seems like Chevy Chase has made quite a few "family" movies and no one pulled up a segment of him doing some parody and declared that he was immoral.
I imagine it was for film school or something... a complete parody. I'd understand if Fox would fire her but PBS? This reminds me of when I lost Pee Wee. Except the offence here really isn't one.
Even "good girls" masturbate! Examine your audience...if it is the same as the audience viewing the "technical virgin" material, then I think their parents should be in question...not Miss Martinez!
I am the mother of a toddler and expecting a new baby. I support Melanie and feel that she has been wronged by your organization. The TV satires were not porn and had no nudity, there is no reason she should have been fired.
First, I do not need my email hidden (jmslinkard@aol.com)
I have twin 14 month old boys, and they love Melanie. Our family could care less about the 1999 stuff. And my wife and I call for her to be reinstated instantly.
My baby doesnt care about past voice over jobs that Melanie has done, and neither do I. As a mom and as a voice over performer, I urge you to please put Melanie back on the air!
Don't be stupid. Actors act. They act in a variety of jobs. Sometimes a previous job's part would not be appropriate in a current job. They are still an actor, and roles don't define them. Hire her back. Don't be stupid in order to try to please the Looney Right.
She's great with the kids. Who I don't care what she did before the show, Except show me she also has a sense of humor besides the kids age she is catering to on the good night show is definitely not the same people the spoof psa was intended for nor would they even understand it.
... Shame on you, PBS. How utterly immature. I hope she's hired by someplace which deserves her. Exactly when and how are 3 year-old kids going to find this online?
My son loves the good night show and Melanie. These videos are of no impact to a 4 year old and this decision is out of bounds with reality. This is no different that something that might be on any prime time sketch comedy show. Rather than abruptly breaking the hearts of 4 years olds, have some perspective. I'm enough of an adult to keep my son from seeing these old other clips. I am disappointed with PBS and considering this as a reason to withdraw my support for PBS. The hypocracy.
