I will be canceling my satelite and moving to cable. My kid loves that show. They have bothered my kid who at her age would never ever even know about technical virgin. I am angry at PBS and will not support them anymore.
I'm a proud parent of three, and I don't think there is any good reason for Melanie to be fired like this! I think it is very wrong for PBS to fire her and ruin her reputation for something so insignificant while trying to save their own...
I think PBS made a big misake letting Melanie go! My son LOVED HER!!! And what she did in that short film was a long time ago, and would probably NEVER been found if PBS hadn't made it public knowlege themselves!!! They shot themselves in the foot on this one!! MELANIE, WE'RE BEHIND YOU!!!
I think that it's totally ridiculous that she was fired for what she did seven years ago. She is an actor and it's not like she was doing porn. Little children are oblivious to what she did and don't need to be told about it. My 16 month old loves watching her and I would still let him if they brought Melanie back. PBS, it's 2006, nobody really cares about her past just that she is doing a lot of good for children today. HIRE HER BACK ASAP!!!!!
I am sickened that PBS, an institution I normally have great respect for, is afraid of someone making a simple joke about sex. What kind of message does it send to our children that someone who did nothing obscene, illegal, immoral, etc. is fired simply for making a joke about sex in their private time? I'm truly sadenned.
It's somewhat ironic that the message of the Tech Virgin video is precisely my plan in 8 years when my 4-year old is about 12. Maybe PBS should pick her up then so she can use the 'credibility' they are so concerned about as a weapon against the current main stream views about abstinence being the responsibility of the asexual female (which we all know women are).
I am a supporting member for 10 years now of public radio. This kind of censorship is unacceptable. Firing this woman was a cowardly act. How dare PBS colude with the mindset of people who wish to push women back to the dark ages of being property and breeding stock.
A difficult decision on all sides, I'm sure. But as parents we must present a balanced and fair view of the world to our children, from the very beginning.
It's ridiculous that she would get fired for a comedy skit/spoof she did years ago. I don't think any kids who were watching the PBS show even know about these videos that she made.
I support this petition because As a parent of a six-year-old who loves PBS Sprout and Melanie, I was shocked and upset by her dismissal.
The videos that caused this problem were filmed too long ago...
And they do not damage her current role in the Good Night Show...
I am outraged that she was fired over something that she did over 7 years ago.Come on now she is not proud of what she did either but she need to work and was paid for it in order to survive in this industry.so give a girl a break as if you never done nothing wrong in your past that you are not proud of
This is totally unfair. If they are going to fire her because of some skit she did in 19forgotten they should look at some executives for the alcohol they drink still.
