Of all the sexually related reasons to fire someone, this has to be one of the more foolish ones. This issue is minimal at best; something for a parent to chuckle about once or twice while their child watches the show. Do the right thing, PBS.
i am a 56 yr old physician with triplet 3 yr olds. i think the firing was ridiculous- the girl is an actress and the role was not pornographic. this is what actresses do!
my little brother looks for melanie every morning, he even learned her name before most of out family members..I breaks his little heart that she is not there anymore
I don’t believe that you folks, at PBS, are fundamentally bad people, for firing Melanie, you are just constipated; this is how people can expect to act when they haven't taken a good shit, since high school.
Every one of you, all of the members of the PBS board of directors, need to take an entire family size package of EX-LAX--it might hurt a little and you might walk funny, for a day or two, but when it’s all over you will find that you are able to think clearly, for the first time in years. Won't that be nice?
This is an absolute Fuck Up, yes I cursed...big deal. We all have done things that maybe if people found out about would be shocked, but there are going to be any 2-5 yr. old children who would ever find this out. To make the excuse of it being inappropriate is Bullshit. Yep, I cursed again - I guess I'm not fit to raise my 2 little girls. PBS, you guys really need to reconsider this outrageous decision.
Unbelievable that she would be fired for 2 30 second "Saturday Night Live like" video she made 7 years ago. I wonder if the executives at PBS are as clean over the last 7 years?? Bring Melanie back right away or we may be heading to Noggin.
My daughter absolutely loves Melanie and misses her. I watched the clip and it's just rediculous that they would hold that against her. Doesn't George Carlin narrate Thomas the Tank? I mean, how foul-mouthed can you get! I believe the firing of her has done more damage to this age group than watching that video ever could.

these "Technical Virgin" spots were obviously humor. The target audience for the Good Night Show wouldn't understand them even if they saw them, which is highly unlikely. You guys pick and choose your morals - you can air all kinds of homo crap then fire a straight gal with a sense of humor. Who is really warped in this equation?
I agree. We have all doen things in our past. What Melanie did was not harmful. If we all were judged by things from our past, none of us would be successful. I wonder if there were hidden secrets about other employees at PBS how many would still remain employed? Makes me wonder.
PBS's conduct is beyond reprehensible. I have supported my local public television station for many years, but can no longer in good conscience lend my support to such a feckless enterprise. The only debate is whether the PBS executives are gutless or spineless. I am not competent to make the call.
Hello people?....George Carlin??? Alex Baldwin for goodness sake? It wasn't that offensive, and my children will never know about it. My son is only 1, but whenever Melanie came on he would turn to the T.V and stop whatever he was doing and just smile the biggest smile. I will miss that! :(
I am writing in regards to the termination of Melanie Martinez, I want to say I am sadden by the fact that she was removed from the show for soemthing that was done 7 years ago. I seen the video myself and personally don't think it was any thing wrong with it. It was satire. She was not naked, or using profanity. This video would not been seen by a child that tunes into a PBS show. In fact I don't believe many of us parent would of found it either. I do know that she was GREAT on the Good Night Show and my son Josh and daughter Jaelyn absolutely love her and light up when they see her and her her sweet voice. Since Sprout has been broadcast here in OKC we have tuned in and my son has learned alot as well as fallen in love with all of the shows but really loves Melanie. He does not miss a night of shows, if he does he is very upset about it. He even noticed her new hair-do and ran to me "momma, she looks beautiful". It is going to be difficult to break his heart and tell him she is gone. (I have been showing DVR' recordings of the Goodnight Show but can only do that for so much longer...He has caught on). PLEASE reinstate Melanie's and give us back our "GOOD NIGHT GIRL". You had a wonderful thing going with her as an addition to your show. There is a petition to bring her back, that should speak in volumes about how much she is loved by children and parents.
With Sincerity & Concern.

I don't like the decision made by PBS Sprout. I never really even liked the network. Melanie was the best part of the network. If all of you have the time, visit my 276488 Boycott PBS Sprout website and click on the email address to send me comments and I will try to post them on the site. the address is:

2 30 second spoof are valid reason to fire someone, yet the likes of George Carlin and Alec Baldwin are allowed to be the narrators on Thomas the train. I think their past is inappropriate for a kids show as well.
I was never a big fan of Sprout's programming (except for the delightful Pingu), but your reasons for firing Melanie are ludicrous and draconian. Since when did PBS become a bunch of puritan morons? You're on the way to whitewashing your children's programming into a tasteless, banal goop.
I think this is being taken to far my network exec. She was an up and coming actress and probabaly never thought of it in neagtive way when trying to pay her dues to get started as an actor. Alot of famous names have made B movies or worse and there is no problem with it. I mean really, how many children that watch sprout are going to be on the internet searching for this video ? The whole scenario it being made into something so horrible, but in all honesty I think it's not that big of a deal.
I cannot begin to tell you how happy my son & daughter get when they hear Melanie's sweet voice & see her on Sprout, She is the reason we tune in.they light up. It is going to be difficult to explain to my children they can't see the "good-night girl" anymore. They are going to be heart broken. PLEASE bring her back to the show. She brightened the day of many children.
Thank You.
