My son loves Melanie. We call her his "girlfriend" and when we tell him that she's on the t.v., he runs to see her. He doesn't even care much for the shows as much as he likes Melanie. I ask you to please reconsider.
Another example of how corporations play it too safe. They're afraid of the vocal minority rather than the common sense of most parents and individuals.
Because my 2 year old son loves Melanie. How can an act that took place 7 years ago be punished now. This is outrageous and rdiculous. PBS should be preaching tolerance. Instead PBS is so afraid of offending the moral majority nut jobs that it will cut off its nose to spite its face. Melanie is the face of the Good Night Show. Any child that ever sees those 30 second videos will not see them until they are old enough and adult enough to laugh at them, and realize they are jokes. I will be happy to pull all of my family's monetary and viewer support of PBS if she is not re-hired. I can TiVo other networks' programs and let my kids watch those programs instead. This knee-jerk reaction by PBS should not and will not be tolerated by the viewers.
Melanie has been such a wonderful mentor to my son. He looks forward to watching her every day. She is the only reason my son watches Sprout. She has taught my son to be nice, where his body parts are, how to say some words in Spanish, and most of all, Melanie has taught my son patience. When we turned Sprout on tonight to sit down to watch Melanie together, he was shocked to see that his favorite person in the world was gone. I hope you will think about all the good she did, and that you will bring her back to her rightful place. What she did was in her past, and in no way harms the children that dearly love her.
This is a ludicrous decision. Melanie is the "nite-nite lady" in our house, and my toddler is never going to see her ancient spoof videos. As previously noted, George Carlin and Chris Rock have appeared on PBS shows, and this screams of sexism. How dare PBS judge women by a different standard! Shame on you... bring back the nite nite lady right now!!
We want Melanie back - my kids miss her - who cares about an ad that was done 7 years ago which the young Sprout viewers would never know about unless their parents told them about it.
I think we have lost sight of what is important and what will benifit our children most. Melanie has had an extreemly positive effect on my children. And just as a side comment. I would like to look into the past of the people who run the PBS network and who come up with these shows. I'm sure Melanie is not the only person who has made some bad decisions-although she is the only one who was up front and honest about it. I guess honesty and the benifits of being honest isn't a value PBS wants our children to learn.
Bring her back or lose aother supporter...or worse the support of my two children. They don't even care to watch the station any more without Melanie. It's not these children at this age level the show is directed at will be seeing that spoof anyway.
It's ridiculuos to get rid of Melanie for some video that came out so many years ago. It's not like my children will ever get to watch it. Bring her back, my 16 month old loved watching her show. If she does not return, the Sprout chanel will loose a supporter!
My two year old misses her. It seems strange to have George Carlin doing voices for Thomas the Train but condemn a talented actress for a small part she did in a spoof so many years ago. The short videos are not going to be seen by my two year old. Was the firing sexist or racially bias? Had anyone actually complained about the videos or do the producers prefer just to ruin a show on the off chance that someone might complain? If and when Melanie Martinez is hired by another company I will gladly have my children watch that channel instead.
I believe the firing of Melanie Martinez is one of most sexist decisions PBS has ever made. George Carlin has hosted Shining Time Station without a concern about his comedy routines which are much famous than these obscure videos that Ms Martinez made seven years age. I fail to understand how these videos undermine our children's morality when actors such as Tom Green and Chris Rock appear on Sesame Street.
If Carlin can be the conductor on Thomas, I fail to see why Ms. Martinez, who is wonderful and whom my 7 year old enjoys watching, should not be allowed to remain as host. It is very much the same thing. Carlin is more profane in his adult act, which he continues to perform even as he does teh conductor. Ringo Starr did drugs as a Beatle, but yet he was also the conductor, Bring Melanie Martinez back.
Who is this audience that is supposedly being offended? The Goodnight show caters to toddlers and small children! They have no idea what any of the technical virgin stuff was about. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't going to be aired on the show...firing Melanie makes no sense whatsoever...BRING HER BACK! MY KIDS LOVED HER!
I, too, believe that you have made a terrible mistake to exclude Melanie from this channel. She is an intergral part of the programming and will be surely missed. The night will not be the same without her. And, anyway, who likes the "Talking Star"? Not me.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Uncompromisingly asinine, unabashedly hypocritical, even slightly suggestive of a Freudian fixation -- this decision begs to be ridiculed.
Wow, I've seen it and it's not like she made a porn movie. Does PBS think I'll be showing it to my kids? Many Sesame street guest stars have done R rated movies. Rosie O'Donnell was in the Elmopalooza movie along with R rated comedian Chris Rock. Will Rosie's lesbianism rub off on the little kiddies? @@ And what about the 3 males that narrate Thomas the Tank engine?
I watched those "Technical Virgin" videos last night. Considering how PBS allowed individuals like Tom Green to appear on Sesame Street and George Carlin to host other programs, they have some nerve to fire Melanie for an obvious, although distasteful, joke.
Please reconsider your plan of action, for Melanie plays an important role in our child's night. My son asks where Melanie's at every night now. Where's the consistency?
I've been a supporter of PBS for over 20 years now. As a Mom of two children under three, I feel that Melanie's "past" has nothing to do with her abilities today to connect with my kids. If we were to eliminate anyone who had a past that was anyway disagreeable to the Christian Right, well then... PBS would be quite quiet. Who would narrate "Thomas the Tank Engine"? Please bring her back. You were wrong. Admit it. That's what we try to teach our kids. Admit it when you're wrong, and try to make it better.
Shame on you PBS Sprout!!!! Your over protecting conservitive views hurt us all. People like you make this world a worse place. Stop making such meanigless decisions for me and let me decide. SHAME SHAME!
People make mistakes in their lives when they are young. She came to you all, not the other way around. Let's all remember he who is without sin cast the first stone.
