Melanie IS the Good Night Show, airing the regular programming without her playing games, making crafts, or singing songs is not the same thing. My daughter will miss her greatly and never know why because she, like all of Melanies other young fans, will not have access to the videos that got Melanie fired.
It's ridiculous. I doubt that my 3 year old who loves Melanie (she's her favorite imaginative friend) knows anything or cares about anything related to something she did 7 years ago. I don't care.
I understand that PBS was concerned that the video would upset their "audience" meaning us parents, but clearly the firing has us more fired up. My 5 year old is computer savy but he would never have found that film. Besides, I've noticed it has been pulled from ifilms as well. Reinstate her and let this go.
What a double standard. Lets look at the evidence. Several male actors are on several PBS aired programs and let us examine their prior work. Melanie is absolutely delightful and my baby and I enjoy her show in the evenings. I love this country but sometimes their realistic expectations of people seems to be unrealistic. I don't think that Melanie was born with doing this job in mind and planned her whole life around it including decisions of the future. Please bring back this cute and bright talent. PBS needs to get with the program and realise how many people enjoy her on the show.
So many times during the day one of my children will do something creative that surprises me. When I ask them where they learned that, they say "I learned it from Melanie."
What you have done is cause a lot of children to be very unhappy. If all parents are like me they probable will not watch PBS anymore. What Melanie did children don't even see anyway and you still allow people that do filty shows still be allowed to be on the show. It is very disturbing that you find it necessary to upset so many children that love Melanie and can relate to what she does. My granddaughter thinks she is sick and wants to send her a card. What do you propose that we tell her since you think you know everything about children?
Everyone has had a bad past one time or another. They might have done things they might have regret for. I feel that this woman has made a wonderful choice to turn her life around. How can she? when people want to judge her for her past. I feel this woman should and deserves another chance. For god sake look at one of our presidents admitting of having an affair but people dont want to bring that matter up, they want it hush hush. But this woman is doing good for her life and people want to judge her for something she had done years ago. Bring her back!!
She is perfect for the role on the
Good Night Show. I know that the audience in which this programming is geared to, will not be exposed to the mistakes of her past. I know that My daughter enjoyed the adorable character Melanie portrayed on Sprout. Shame on you PBS - the firing was unnecessary.
I support this petition . Melanie was great for Sprout. I never understood that childish spunk but was glad she always had it when my kids needed to stretch, do a craft, or hear a good story. A joke seven years ago may be grounds for screening out applicants, but it should not affect someone with a proven record of great performance for your network.
This was her past and has nothing to do with PBS my child is young and would not know what she did. He loves the show and the kids should not be punished.
The network heads are insane for hiring someone willing to cater to children every night for something that she did almost 10 years ago. Are the executives virgins?
She is perfect for that job. She is very sweet and whatever she did in the past, which was nothing that bad, is in the past and kids will not be affected by that. Your decision to fire her for that is very silly.
My daughter adored Melanie, I would be deeply saddened if she leaves for something that happened so long ago. Our kids are the ones suffering from this, they are too young to understand what is happening.
I am a father of 2 and I think that the fact of something that took place 7 years ago as a joke can be over looked in this case. This does not change the fact she as done good work... feel free to call me at 651-238-1314 but as someone whos 2 boys watched and liked her. This is very short sighted of PBS.
My children miss Melanie and my husband and I wish that you would reconsider your firing of her. What she did 7 years ago has no bearing on what she does as host of the Good Night Show. I am very disappointed in your decision
In a world where athletes commit crimes and are allowed back on the field, they want to fire a woman over something as harmless as this? Weak. I have to believe that there is more to the story.
My childern absolutely adore Melanie Martinez and have had many questions as to why she is not on at night anymore. I personally find it ridiculous that PBS believes that these two 30 second videos are grounds enough for dismissal. How on earth would a child in the target age group for the show even be able to locate the videos to watch to "undermine her character's credibility with the audience"? The audience is young childern, and I know mine have been been most unhappy since Melanie has failed to appear nightly. To them the removal of Melanie has caused them more distress than two 30 sec. videos, they would never see, ever could. I believe that PBS has seriously erred in this and should admit this error publicly and ask Melanie to return to the Good Night show. I doubt another host will be as well recieved, at least by my childern, after several days of no Melanie they have lost all interest in watching PBS in the evening.
