I put my two children to sleep while watching this show. By taking such a talented person off the air, you have chosen to alienate many people who tune in ONLY for her show. No host will be able to replace MM. Think twice before making harsh decisions.
As a medical student, mother, and previous actor, I don't find this spoof that is intended for adults "innappriatefor her role as a preschool program host" and don't see how it " may undermine her character's credibility with our audience," who shouldn't be watching those videos anyway.
True progressives hold grudges, I guess. Leave it to PBS, a Federally funded agitprop outlet to slam someone for past acts of free speech. Down with PBS. Good luck, Ms. Martinez, and thanks for all the laughs...
The foolish, narrow-minded censorship of the PBS Kids Sprout network and the "Good Night Show" will result in many (myself included) choosing NOT to watch their network and NOT patronize their sponsors.
Bad move!!!
I'm not a parent, but how many children aged 2-5 (your target audience) will see or comprehend the saracastic message these spots send? Reminds me of the decision of some of your affiliates to not air the episode of "Buster" which visited a same-sex led family. I'm sure glad that we're not promoting one smidgen of understanding, this is not a characteristic that we'd like children to grasp (maybe they'll understand that saracasm).
The kids loved this show and loved her. They shouldn't have fired her cause the kids certainly do not understand why this was done. You don't fire someone for something they did 7 years ago. Cause i'm the PBS execs have never done anything in their past they regret or would be considered questionable. Who gave them the right to judge her. She obviously loves children and is a mother herself why would you rob her and her fans of the enjoyment she brings to us all.
This is completely ridiculous. My children are crying for this show and how exactly would PBS like me to explain to them why she was taken off the air? THe people at PBS sound like they are the ones with a maturity issue and they need to grow up.
PBS will no longer receive any donation from myself or my family until Melanie is brought back. It is hard to explain to a child why Melanie has disappered.
It seems to me that PBS has done more damage to the children and families than what they thought would be the ramifications of what Melanie did. Bring Melanie back and make all the kids and families feel whole again.
I love Melanie! Bring her back! She was a great host! She was perfect with children! My son loved her show! No one will be good enough to take her place!!!
There is no Good Night Show without Melanie. It's dull without her bouncy vibrant energy. Who cares what she did 7yrs ago!! BRING HER BACK PLEASE!! WE MISS HER!!
any instance of arbitrarily invented and inconsistently enforced standards creates a chilling effect on ALL speech. Others have pointed out the double standard here; I would go further and say that giving someone the power to invent new reasons for termination, without answerability or objective standards, only creates an atmosphere of fear in the workplace and is a step closer towards outright censorship. Whoever made the decision to fire Melanie had better hope he or she has never ever done anything in his or her entire life that someone, somewhere might find objectionable.
PBS has taken stands against aggregious calls to take other shows off the air (even Cookie Monster had a brief spat of critism by parents worried about nutrition). I'm pretty conservative about what my toddler watches, but this PBS decision is absolutely terrible. Seriously, we had to suffer through 1.5 years of Riverdance, PBS execs must have a sense of humor.
Because I believe she is an awesome host, I don't believe in skeletons in my closet being drug out every chance they get and PBS has double standards. I am sure that if we were rated on what we did 7 years ago, 14 years ago and today, people would definitely see the rationale in hiring her back. How about if we search their backgrounds??? HMMM? What are the PBS head honchos' names. Two can play that game!
I support this petition because Melanie is an excellent host of the Goodnight Show. Her past jobs should have no bearing on her current position. Swallow your pride and bring her back please. My child loves her.
