Bring back Melanie! My daughter is 4 yrs old and won't watch this program anymore because Melanie is not there. Bedtime hasn't been the same since Melanie was let go.
I actually know Melanie Martinez from working with her on a film while at Hunter College. She is a professional actress that has other outstanding work out there. I have not seen Technical Virgin, but my 14 month old DOES watch Melanie on the Good Nite show almost every evening and I can assure you he hasn't been hitting the internet yet like most children watching that are his age. I don't think the kids really have anything to worry about. This is ridiculous, I can only think of the teletubbies incident a few years back. Give me an F'ing break PBS, you aren't what we thought you were.
I am very upset over the firing of Melanie Marinez. As the father of a 2 year old, we have both come to enjoy her show at night. This move by PBS sprout goes against what this country was built on. If she had made the fake PSA's while still hosting the Good Night Show i can understand why they would let her go. It happened seven years ago and they shouldn't be held against her.
My son is so upset by the firing of Melanie. He would have never viewed this video nor would I. Frankly I don't care what she did 7 years ago, I do care that my son is upset that Melanie disappeared.
The firing makes absolutely no sense. The parody was just that, a parody, a joke, many - so very many years ago. It's not even that dirty. What does this have to do with kids or her show today at all? Are you kidding me? I'll never watch PBS again and neither will any of my kids ever as long as I am controlling the television if she is not given her job back. That's the complete and honest truth. I'm done with any television network so cruel, unfair, and petty as this.
It think it was a childish decision to fire her over a deven year old indepedent Short film that will carry no weight to the actual viewers mostly under seven years of age.
because as a parent I realize that routine makes children feel safe, not a 30 second video made years ago. Watching Melanie for a bit before they went to bed was part of their routine. She taught them so many wonderful things. I'm supposed to financially support PBS now?
I have two kids, a 2 1/2 and 9 month old. Melanie was great. My kids would not even know or understand about her technical virgin videos until another 8-10 years. I just saw both videos, they are harmless. It is not like Melanie was on the cover of Playboy. Please give Melanie her job back.
i totally dissagree with the firing..besides...if children are viewing the video..i blame the parents..not the video..the only ones hurt in this whole "firing"..are the 'Children"
As the mother of two young children I am deeply dissapointed in your decision to fire Melanie Martinez. She connected with young children and this is not altered by her appearance in a video-no matter the content-7 yrs ago. More importantly the message against free speech and ability to express oneself without fear are terrible lessons for people of any age. I would have expected more from PBS in the past, but I suppose you too have become afraid of free expression. Bring melanie back becuase it is the right thing to do, but also because you will loose my financial support and anyone I can influence if this issue is not appropriately resolved.
My Son has been asking about Melanie every single night since she "disappeared". How am I really supposed to explain to him that something that happened four years before he was born was the cause? If this was the republican run Fox network, perhaps I could understand the firing, but from PBS--the defender of 'quality programing' and defender of our free speech culture--this makes no sense at all.
My 4 y/o daughter is cring every night because she wants to see Melanie. My 14 month old won't watch Sprout at night anymore-I wonder why?! He loves her, too- he smiles at her when she's on! PBS won't get support or donations from me anymore.
After viewing the clip I must say that what I saw was a message to young girls as an alternative to having sex. Melanie was an excellent host, my 16 month old grandson, would even get up and exercise with her.Her audience certainly would not have to means to access this video, so what'a the big deal. He who is without sin, throw the frist stone.
My 4 yr old son watches Sprout he loves the Good Night Show and Melanie. Melanie is an ACTRESS! Like my FOUR YEAR OLD son is going to be watching any of her technical virgin clips (which are hilarious....) and saying, "Hey mommy? Why is she holding a vibrator?" Please!? Why are people so uptight?!
the "moral" majority strikes again...the videos are clearly satirical humor, but maybe the "powers-that-be" have no time to understand humor because they spend all of their time being so moral.
Melanie is a wonderful actress; please bring her back! Like any actress, she's taken on a variety of roles. It is unfortunate that she was removed from The Goodnight Show because of her past, satirical, work.
What ever happened the basics we learned from watching PBS shows??
You do something, however wrong it was..and you FORGIVE,FORGET AND MOVE ON.
I think PBS is taking a hippocritical approach, to firing Miss Martinez.
Let's get her back on the air NO BUTS,and a child will tell you that.
FORGIVE
FORGET
MOVE ON.
I love Melanie! My little sisters watch Sprout all the time. It shouldn't matter that she did those little videos way back whenever. She is a great host on Sprout and seems like a wonderful person.
Thank you PBS for forcing me to explain this to my child, who would never had known about the video in the first place. I saw both of these videos years ago and never thought in my wildest dreams that Melanie from the Good Night Show was the same person.
I am 15 months old and I really miss singing and dancing with Melanie. I don't care what she did 7 years ago. I wasn't even born yet, nor was anyone else who watches PBS sprout. Please bring her back. You made a huge mistake. This one's for you Melanie....."Head and shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes, head and shoulders knees and toes, and eye and ears and mouth and nose."
because it's disgraceful that a person must be so one-dimensional to be accepted into PBS Sprout. I believe the person they're looking for is "squeaky clean." Well, I prefer to have my children taught by real people who live in the real world, people who have actually navigated the world, people who have learned from their choices and grown personally. Perhaps that is a very unusual thing after all.
because Melanie Martinez merely participated in a fairly unoffensive political satire seven years ago. PBS actually showed episodes of "Thomas the Tank Engine" for several years where George "seven words you can't say on television" Carlin played a major character (and played it well, I loved that show).
Melanie Marinez's firing is a stain on PBS's reputation for quality, fairness, honesty, and expression.
who cares what she did years ago? no one does.. as a matter of fact, no one would even know about it if PBS hadnt fired her over it... as a matter of fact, she brought it to their attention. SHAME ON PBS.
