I totally understand the fact that PBS is upholding its long standing traditon of teaching our children good values, and morals.... but what about this one. It is ok to punish someone for something that happened 7 years ago. In essence it is ok to hold a grudge against someone. I find it hard to believe that the higher-ups in the decision are with out fault for the last 7 years. Not one mistake, not one lie, not one decision they regret. Maybe this time they are not watching out for our kids but the network. My wife and I will miss having melanies' help after work, but not as much as my son does when he sits down for his TV time.
My daughter has asked about her every night before she goes to bed. Please reconsider your decision-the children love melanie and I love her sweet, funny personailty. don't care what she did 7 years ago, I care about what she means to so many children right now.
Miss Melanie firing by PBS is screwed up. You let someone like George Carlin Narrate Tomas the Tank, when all she did was participate in some student films while in college.
Now let's consider how some of Sesame Street's guests' real-life behavior and movie roles compare to Miss Melanie's transgressions...
Dean Martin - Real-life drunk
Jodie Foster - Portrayed a teenage prostitute in Taxi Driver
Tom Green - Where do I start..?
Julianne Moore - Portrayed a porn star in Boogie Nights
Paul Reubens - Real-life public masturbator
Johnny Cash - Real-life addict
Waylon Jennings - Real-life addict
Michael Jackson - You be the judge...
Willie Nelson - Real-life tax evader
I don't really care what they do for fun and profit, and apparently, neither did PBS. So, why the big deal over Miss Melanie's short films?!
My children loved her on PBS and have been asking for days where she is and why she isn't on anymore.
I can not believe PBS is so absent minded that they can not see the irony. I would like to remind them that those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
You idiots! You get a great show going, gather a worthy audience, our kids get attached to the host, and you kill it - but worse, draw attention to some inane, ridiculous video that would have languished in obscurity if not for your silly conservative anxieties. You've had drug users, professed exhibitionists, stuffed animal characters of ambiguous gender hosting shows. How you decided that Melanie represented any moral dilemma for the intended audience (who are too young to find her PSA spoof videos on the internet anyway), is beyond rational explanation. You people are complete and utter idiots. I'm yanking my support of PBS, convincing all my friends with children to opt for Noggin instead of subjecting their children to the political nightmare that PBS has become. You should be ashamed.
WHAT IS PBS THINKING my little 2 year old loves melanie and is asking me all the time where is melanie.PBS you should be ashamed of yourself and as for me i could care less about ever watching PBS again.WE WANT MELANIE BACK!!!!!!
She needs to be rehired my 2 year old is upset and who cares what she did off the show. What do most people do in private? And I am a Pastor and she needs to be forgiven and let back on PBS!
My 2 year old daughter doesn't understand why she can't dance and sing with Melanie before bedtime anymore. I had no idea this video even existed, as many others didn't either. I'm sure the one responsible for the firing has never done anything to be put under the microscope. This decision is just ridiculous. Now I have completely blocked the PBS station from being broadcast in my home.
I mean when you can have George Carlin narrating Thomas and friends and doing the type of comedy he does on the show what in the world is really going on?
Makes you wonder who couldn't get in her pants so now she is out.
I know that statement is out of line but it just disgust me to no end with this decision.
NICK are you listening? Get her in and you'll have many new watchers for higher ratings.
Maybe the New President of PBS should look at the kids and ask, did Mel do anything to hurt any Child today? But G. Carlin is still doing his obscene comedy but is still on sprout.
BRING HER BACK! OR I SHALL NEVER DONATE ANOTHER DOLLAR TO PBS!!!!
As if my children would have EVER seen this, I would have never seen the short film if it hadn't been for the firing of Melanie. As if it is not hard enough to get a good acting job!!! My family supports you Melanie!!!
PBS Kids Sprout I'm begging you to bring back Melanie! My little girl misses Melanie and keeps asking where Melanie and Star are. What do I tell her? Bedtime hasn't been the same since Melanie was let go.
I was surprise to discover PBS kids fired Melanie - Both myself and my 21 month old toddler LOVE Melanie and we miss her very much. I have always read that children of this age adjust better to routine - as a result of PBS Kids removing the good night show, they have disrupted many nightly rituals for toddlers/young children all over the United States. Not only did they disrupt the nightly rituals, but I honestly believe as parents, we never would have known any difference of this "so called" inappropriate video made 7 years ago. If anything, PBS "SproutKids" decision has given more attention to this video and as natural curiousity we search for it on the internet to find out EXACTLY what the fuss is about. I for one did search for this video on the internet and found it to be humorous. At this point, all I can say to Management at PBS Kids and Sprout TV, be a mature adults and bring Melanie back to our children!!!!
