The whole family would have this show as part of our nightly ritual before bed....and she made that show great. We should all reconsider PBS during all those fund raisers they shove down our throat when they display such disregard for the values of this country and the principals that our constitution would inspire.

The videos that Ms. Martinez made seven years ago were never intended for children. She has done a great job as host of the Goodnight Show and should not have been released for previous work in a mature project that most of her current audience will never see. While I would agree that the videos would be inappropriate for her to make WHILE hosting on PBS Sprout, there was nothing unethical about them at the time that she made them.

Why has Melanie been fired while the Baldwin Brothers and George Carlin continie to host Thomas the Train? I hope that I haven't done something recently (24 years old)that will determine whether or not I have a job in 7 years. Melanie did absolutely nothing wrong. She has every right to express herself artistically. Sprout should hold everyone to do with the netword to the same standards. Firing Melanie was completely hipocritical!! Bring Melanie Back. Melanie if you see this petition I support you 100%. You did absolutely nothing wrong. Stand strong and I hope to see you in the future.

Get a grip on reality people. SHe was good at her job and my kids love her. What does a college gag film have to do with your impact on my child today by removing an icon you established. Your replacement won't help resolve your PR issues and he will get over the whole thing but you are so lame in your actions. You have sold out! There are more commercials now... whats next? Political campaigns? You are a bad grown man. She was going to college.

It's really scarry to think that as a 24 year old if I do something artistically to express myself in 7 years I could be fired for it. My little nephew keeps asking where Melanie is. Her short video was just a SPOOF (!!!) on PSA's. Give me a break. I thought the video was hilarious!!! I can also garantee you that my 15 month old nephew will not be able to find it. If he did find it he would have no idea whatsoever as to what it means. Melanie had every right to make this video. I don't think she did anything wrong. I think the conservatives need to get a life. Why fire Melanie, but allow the Baldwin Brothers and George Carlin to host Thomas the Train? BRING MELANIE BACK!!! Melanie if you read this I support you 100%. I'm sorry my support doesn't equal a job, but don't back down. You did nothing wrong!!!!!!!!!!!

My son absolutely loves Melanie and will no longer watch sprout without her! My son is much too young to search the net and find out about her short film, as should most of the children who watch sprout. I believe some people do things they regret. Us as parents i am sure you all are not "model" parents. We are human. Pbs President and broadcasters i am sure they are not "model people either. Melanie deserves another chance!!

My daughter is not even two. She isn't going to be watching Technical Virgin so I doubt it's going to "confuse" or "upset" her. The person who pointed out Sesame Street's guests has a good point--they air those people with very public, very questionable backgrounds. And also with Thomas the Tank, voiced by George Carlin. I have gone to his shows, but I don't take my 2-year-old so she isn't going to connect the foul-mouthed comedian with the guy who reads Thomas. BRING MELANIE BACK!

Look at all the actors and performers who have been in, filmed segments for or been regulars on Sesame Street who have done very adult if not questionable things in both their private and public lives? I guess it's ok if you have already achieved a significant level of fame before being on pbs sprout.

This outrageous. Her prior career -- either professional or amature -- has no bearing on her ability to perform well in the role of host of "PBS Sprout". If any adult who has had sex or ever cracked as sexual joke is disqualiried from being a TV host -- even a kids' show host -- you wouldn't have many candidates. Jeez: the material wasn't even provactive. I think your average sexy MTV video or Victoria's Secret commersial is more dangerous to kids than those old "tech virgin" spots.

I didn't even realize what a profound positive she was having on my child until she wasn't there anymore. Now it's more difficult to get him settled down at night because watching Melanie on Sprout was such a large part of is night time routine. You should be ashamed of yourselves, PBS, for having such blatant double standards!! I hope that by reading this petition and the individual comments of all of these parents that you will realize what a huge mistake you've made and rectify the situation forthwith!!

as others have mentioned, the double standard with the work of George Carlin and others demonstrates both injustice and inconsistency within the network. Melanie has done excellent work on PBS Kids Sprout, regardless of her decisions as a younger actress. If PBS truly wanted what was best for its viewers, it would not have suddenly taken from children, without explanation or warning, the "friend" who had become an accustomed part of their evening. This smacks more of politicization than genuine concern. Please reconsider and invite Melanie back.

Hey, this is a bad decision by PBS. At the very minimum PBS should look for alternate jobs for her. This was a clever spoof; don't penalize people for trying to be funny in college!
