It is actually quite a funny video that I am sure teenagers and up find quite entertaining. In case the PBS managers don't understand what this film is, its call sarcasm, its funny. Also Melanie sounds completely honest about her disclosure which cannot be said of PBS officials

Melanie was terrific in her job. Any alleged misdeeds were minor, and had nothing to do with her performance in the Good Night Show. Please bring her back so our kids can enjoy her again.

I do not agree with sprout's decision. There was no nudity nor was it done in bad taste. If their network programers cannot understand sarcasm, i offer this advise, stay away from sitcoms.
#5984

Margaret Whittaker said 08/05/06, 12:49 pm (verified)
PBS/Sprout's decision was shortsighted and intended to protect PBS/Sprout's interest, NOT our kids. We want Melanie back, NOW! Until then, no Sprout in my house (either on the TV or on the computer).

I am a supporter of PBS. Always have been, always will be a supporter. I must write about the sad turn of events. PBS is trying to please the right wing at the expense of civil rights and loyal liberal and moderate viewers. Please bring her back and elimate the purging of non-PC actors.

Folks: We have weathered the former Chairman, the potential cuts in funding, the self censorship for obsenity -- at what point will you start to stand up for us? All that matters here is that she is great, the kids love her, she communicates, and the "crime" she's accused of is no pornographic. You can't get beyond that because it's not politically correct? At some point, I hope you people grow some balls and quit being so wishy washy suck ups to the GOP elite.

I believe that part of learning is learning from yuor mistakes. In our house we watched "Mel", I didn't even know it was PBS & Sprout until my wife told me. I thought "Mel" was going to be my son, what Captain Kangaroo was to me and my wife. No because of one mistake - which she brought to PBS's attention she lost her job. What is America coming to?

Just because an actor plays an adult role in a video aimed at adults, does not make that person incapable of (or unsuitable for) playing a different role in a children's program. This prissy response is ridiculous in the extreme.

I support this petition because A) My 17 month old little girl loved melanie and the goodnight show like mad, she always tried to sing and dance along with melanie. and B) this is a total breach of the freedom of speech and expresion on pbs' part. We are boycotting everything pbs from now on, no more goodnight show, sesame street, barney, teletubbies, or boobahs untill melanie is back. Further more I am sending the link to this petition to many many people.

I support this petition because it is absolutely rediculous to fire her for something so stupid! If they could allow George Carlin on Thomas thr Train then why can they not allow Melanie to continue to host the goodnight show? It was seven years ago if I am correct and it isn't like it was anything pornographic. They should bring her back!
