My kids are in love with her and watch her daily, now I have to tell them that because of some hypocrite in the front office, she will never ever be seen by them again. That should go over real well with a 4 and a 2 year old. Yeah, they'll understand that one.
ya need to grow up Sprout. I guess you all are a bunch of sproutlets yourselves. You are all just so Pure. Yeah right. You need to bring Melanie back today..
I think we will look back on this, however things turn out, and say either, "This is where we drew the line and took our country back" or "This was the beginning of the end".
it is incomprehensible that someone can be fired over participation in a harmless parody from 7 years in the past. I wonder what I'd find out if I interviewed college friends of these PBS executives who fired her. Worst of all, no child watching Ms. Martinez's show would ever have even learned about these past videos, so how does this even apply to her applicability for the job? Time for folks to chill-out and grow a sense of humor.
I would think that 2-5 year olds have better things to think about than this. And if this is truly a moral issue then PBS needs to take that up with some of the other demoralizing programming that they decide to run on a daily basis. If morals are truly an issue then most of the scientific shows that run on PBS should also be banned because most scientifc premise is not moral according to the same bias they used to fire mS. Martinez. Thank you for your time.
What is "inappropriate" about the video she did? Was the show she did on PBS working out alright before she revealed that she had done these videos? What does one thing (old videos) have to do with the other thing (benign TV show)?
George Carlin and Alec Baldwin are terrific voice actors on Thomas the train. This show is shown on the good night show but both actors have acted in films I would never let my children watch.
You may not like the videos, but they do give young girls something to think about. Too many young girls these days get involved with boys and don't stop to think about their futures. These videos address that thought and may save the futures of many young girls. They also may help avoid many unwanted babies. The videos may not be what adults want to see, but sometimes a good "in your face" is what we need. Don't punish this girl for trying to help other girls her own age. That's not the PBS I support.
You guys have got to be kidding, I really don't think most children are going to searching the internet to find these clips. As a matter of fact, many children that watch your watch are to young to be searching the internet by them selves. If they are doing it, I'm sure they have already ran in material that is way more disturbing.
I feel this is unfair. I doubt that if we investigated the entire staff at PBS, or even just those persons that terminated Melanie, that they would be squeeky clean either. To paraphrase the bible: let he/she that is free of sin cast the first stone.
I think it's abusurd that she would be fired for something so trivial. Who is letting their preschooler watch the virtual virgin video for it to matter what other acting jobs she's had!
Are you going to pull Thomas the Tank Engine off of PBS because of George Carlin's stand-up routine? If not, then why on earth would you pull Melanie for a 30 second parody she did seven years ago. RIDICULOUS.
She did the technical virgin shows a while back, and you fired her for her honesty... Five year old kids would not see those videos at all anyway, and she was doing a good job at PBS.
