It is ridiculous to think that you would fire Melanie Martinez over this. These past events in no way impede the excellent job she has done on Sprout. Our my 4 year old daughter adores her, and should be allow to continue to do so. Please reconsider this poor decision on your part.
Although I have never seen the Kids Sprout network, I am outraged by this firing. This type of retroactive scrutiny is artistically destructive. Interesting people have interesting, fully dimensional lives. Boring people make boring television.
My daughter loves Melanie and I want to see her back on television. She's human and all people make mistakes...30 seconds of video shouldn't ruin what was a great kids show!!!!! thanks!
This firing is absurd. She's an actress! John Ritter played an extremely lewd character on "Three's Company". If he were alive today, would he be fired from "Clifford the Big Red Dog"?!
I think Melanie did the right thing disclosing on her resume her video spoofs, she did an excellent job on PBS Sprout, making crafts, singing, and talking to the children one on one. This has nothing to do with her job performance, and the punishment did not fit. She could have been warned, not fired.
Melanie is a beloved character in our household. PBS made a commitment to the children who love her when they decided to put her on the show. PBS had every opportunity to perform adequate due dilegence before offering Melanie the position. She did nothing illegal. She did nothing untoward. She did nothing that could harm children. It is absurd and irresponsible to fire her.
My grandson and I watched Melanie all the time until Sprout fired her. Sprout has made a cowardly decision. I watched the 2 30 second videos on youtube.com and they are tame compared to everything else on cable.
My 2 1/2 year loved Melanie. He is working through some speech delays and she was one of the few things that he got excited about, responded to, etc. Shame on you PBS. What a ridiculous reason to remove her from the show. I can no longer financially support a broadcast company that makes such ridiculous decisions to the detriment of my childs development. It should be called "SproutletsgrowUP .com.
I am ashamed of the way Ms.Martinez has been treated. I am a loyal consumer of NPR and PBS programming and lived in Chcago for 12 years. Please reconsider. Thanks
Sprout TV needs to get a clue. A youthful indescretion is no reason to end the career of someone who is doing such a good job. My kid no longer goes to bed easily and I am NOT happy!!
I had read the article in the New York Times so decided to check it out. It is totally absurb that she should be fired for those spoofs. And, may I add, the spoofs make a very, very good point in a funny way - that young woman can have sexual fulfillment without becoming pregnant - though not necessarily in the ways spoofed, of course....
Those videos have nothing to do with her integrity as a hostess for a kids program. With the support of parents everywhere(including myself), please reconsider the decision to keep her off the show
Firing Melanie on these grounds is disgraceful. PBS, in its continuing support for this action, greatly risks the ongoing public support needed to justify its existence.
In the NY Times this morning, PBS is quoted as saying, "There is no possibility the decision will be reversed." In their bids for support PBS is constantly saying "This is your station." How can these two statements be accurate. The firing of Melanie Martinez over this old and harmless video is absurd. PBS should reverse the decision immediately and issue a public apology to Ms Martines for this pandering-to-the-bush-adm inistration
action.
There but for the grace of god go i.
Who are YOU.."pbs" to judge someone's past. She is a comfort to us with children and she is sadly missed. I am starting a boycott on HIT aka..sprout PBSKIDS.
There is power in numbers and right now those with powers to fire are a ZEROES.
