My son is devastated, he RAN if he heard Melanies voice, his face would light up, these Kids only know they love her, nothing more! We have swithced channels, my boy is no longer intrested in the goodnight show, frankly, nor am I...Sounds like you have alot of people to let go over past, and PRESENT work...
Absolutely disgraceful that Ms. Martinez was fired for gag movies made seven years ago. Especially since PBS shows have feature such wholesome performers as George Carlin, Alice Cooper and Whoopi Goldberg, it is utter hypocracy to terminate this woman.
my toddler does not know what to think of the show now that her "Big Sprout" (Melanie) is no longer a part of it, please bring back my daughter's "Big Sprout"!
How long should every action one has ever made in ones life be allowed to be crafted against them? Should one never tell jokes, or be silly with friends? How about be young and learn through life experience.
Melanie, if you're out there and happen upon these comments - know that at the very least there are thousands people here who love and miss you being on Sprout.
Everyday my 3yr old asks to watch Melanie, not The Good Night Show. This is how he refers to the show. How will our kids know what she did? Please bring her back. You say you are looking out for our best interest. Our interest is to have Melanie back!!
I have never heard of anything so short-sighted and cruel to the children that became used to Melanie every night. You could have at least had the decency to have her say goodbye for a week or two.
My 5 and 3 year olds keep asking where Melanie has gone and why she didn't say goodbye. They don't understand what has happened and knowing all the facts about why she was fired, quite frankly, neither do I.
because the decision to fire Ms. Martinez is simply outrageous. Ms. Martinez is an excellent host for the Good Night Show, and her performance there is not in question. Her termination sends the wrong message, and emboldens those on the political right who use fear and intimidation to further a conservative social agenda. While PBS may view Ms. Martinez's firing as a preemptive move to avoid criticism by those in Congress who threaten PBS funding, in a larger sense it is a craven act in the face of a threat to free speech. By terminating Ms. Martinez, PBS has handed a political victory to those who would dictate how we think and how we speak. I implore PBS management to have the courage to admit its error and reinstate Ms. Martinez.
Last night, after repeatedly telling my son that I didn't know why Melanie wasn't on TV anymore. He replied "She must no like me anymore."
Thanks PBS for making my son feel bad.
My 3 year old daughter loves her, and wants to know why she cant watch the Goodnight Show anymore, what am I supposed to tell her, cause she did parodies for abstinence, she would look at me like I was crazy.
As the parent of a just-born and recently adopted child, I continue to look for outlets that not only air programming I feel is appropriate, but that I can also have some certainty share my values--two qualifications that I'm sure parents will agree most stations don't meet. I thought that, generally, PBS met this requirement--having pulled back from the brink of the Moyers/NOW debacle. Sprout partner Comcast I can believe this of, perhaps even the relatively unknown Hit Entertainment, but PBS and Sesame Workshop? This ridiculously politically-correct decision demonstrates that PBS no longer is interested in making solid performances and programming a priority, but only a seeming propriety. For shame.
PBS programs should be immune from the sort of ideological litmus tests that have diminished our cultural heritage and kept the public in ignorance and misery.
PBS Lineup tonight: Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan For Automatic Weight Loss With Mark Hyman, M.D.; Doo Wop's Best; Mowtown, The Early Years; Best Money Tips from Johnathan Pound; Neil Sedaka: The Show Goes On; Religion & Ethics Newsweekly
Melanie has been a fantastic host - my kids, 4 and 7, are very upset that she's not on any longer. They couldn't care less about 'technical virgin', and neither do I.
Melanie was the best thing that ever happened to PBS. After we evacuated from Hurricane Rita last year and came back to the destruction, my son was terrified and would not sleep alone. The ONLY thing that got him to feel better was going to sleep with Melanie singing the Goodnight Song. He kept Sprout on night and day as a comfort. She helped my child recover and get over his fears better than anything else! PLEASE bring her back. Little kids don't understand or care about a video made years ago. You can't even recognize her as Melanie in the video. So unfair!
This is another strike by the right wing political correctness culture police who are determined to dismantle public television. This time their brazen political motivation is obvious.
I am very upset over the McCarty-like tactics used by PBS in its foolishly firing Ms. Martinez. I'll never donate to PBS again unless they hire her back.
