I agree that this content wouldn't be OK on Sprout, but these videos weren't being shown on Sprout, nor would people recognize that they were looking at the Sprout host.
My daughter loves this show and they are making a bad decision for removing the host because of something she did 7 years ago. Let her have a successful career!!!
I do not support networks that make decisions based on the reactions of the religious right. If they don't like Melanie Martinez, they can change the channel.
get real, PBS, and listen to your viewers! you don't do anyone any favors with politically correct overreaction. Ms. Martinez' past work, of which you were duly informed, will clearly have no ill effect on Sprout's target audience. Perhaps PBS management would prefer to go ahead and hand the reins over to the Jerry Falwells and Pat Robertsons, and abdicate rational, context-sensitive decisionmaking altogether. Your action in this case do not reflect my values, or those of anyone I know.
This is ridiculous to fire someone for exercising their right of speech. Which corporate sponsor brought the hammer down? Have a conscience and do the right thing and reinstate her.
I am disappointed in PBS for dismissing Melanie Martinez. The only reason we began watching Sprout network was due to Melanie. Too bad for them they loose another viewer.
This is outrageous. Your audience is children who will not see this! You should be ashamed of yourself. Young kids everywhere are sad and upset because Melanie is gone.
I am greatly disappointed in your decision to take Melanie off the air. I think it was a self serving panic stricken decision for fear of public outcry. It is outrageous to say that her other appearance would in any way affect her credibility with her audience. In case you missed it - her audience is TODDLERS and they won't be viewing this other material. My daughter is very upset that Melanie is not on and keeps asking what happened to her. YOU have destroyed your credibility with this audience due to your cowardly act to save your own asses. It was a great show, and she was a wonderful host. Whatever projects she did on the side should have no bearing what-so-ever on her job to host the good night show. I hope she sues you.
How ridiculous that a talented worker should lose her job because her history includes making fun of sex and public-seervice announcements. Yet again, corporate America proves that freedom of speech does not exist for employees. Yet again, PBS shows itself a pawn of corporate America and hung-up religious zealots. Well done, PBS! Yet again, I should be shocked but I'm not--you've delivered the goods as expected.
My 17 month old daughter loved Melanie!! She said good night to her, she sang to the fish and did the stretches along with Melanie. We have not found anything that she loved as much as she did Melanie. I'm just glad she's not old enough to have to explain why Melanie is gone all of a sudden like so many other parents have to do. I really hope that this helps to bring Melanie back.
To Patty Ruckenrager,
Thats America for ya!
As always, known for
its double-standards.
How about George Carlin
appearing on Jay Leno Show
making fun of
gays, fat people
and CHILDREN!!! ?
and Alec Baldwin ...
I want to vomit now..
my 2 yr old doesn't know what those psa's are about. she only knows that melanie isn't on her tv anymore. i had no idea the video existed and if she had not been fired i still wouldn't. the target audience for the goodnight show are young children that know nothing of the content of those videos. it's not like she was doing porn. give her a break.
My child loves her and misser her! Most of the world would never have known about those videos if they hadn't fired her. We want her back- the show if dreadful without her.
To want to teach our children tolerance and being able to express themselves, this is not the sort of action I would have expected.
If she does a good job and performs the required responsibilites for her position what is the probelm?
You have to be kiding me. Kids will eventually find out [it's true] that even their parents had sex.
Instead of hiding reality from children, use this as an opportunity to start a dialogue on the subject.
