I want to state from the very bible. Whoever has never done anything wrong then throw the first stone. Why should we be judgemental on the choices that Melanie has made in the past. My son refuses to watch Sprouts since Melanie has been off the show.
When I babysit my nieces, the only show that let me have some peace was Sprout. But now that Melanie is gone my nieces do not want to watch it. Their favorite part was when Melanie would say "i'm a little sprout but watch me grow...". It is just not the same without her. How can this network try to teach our children when they have many lessons to learn themselves on judgement and forgiveness.
my children are so upset they cried and cried they miss melanie. they said they loved her and they stayed up 30 past their bed time watching sprout wanting to see if Melanie would show back up...!! bring her back
because my girls, now almost two, love Melanie and look forward to her each night.
I really don't understand how PBS can put George Carlin on the air, yet fire Melanie. If it looks, sounds, and feels like a double standard--its a double standard!
Time to GROW up PBS!
We're have become too "PC" and someone needs to stand up and say enough is enough. Let her stay. There's no perfect person out there and the past is the past.
It is unfortunate that Melanie was fired because of the spoof she did 7 years ago. I only know that my 1 yr. old misses watching her since he liked listening to her voice when he was just 6 months old. As a matter of fact, my husband and I joked about his excitement when he heard her that we would say that she was his first crush. We sincerely miss her on the show and hope that the Sprout Management understand that everyone may have a past, but it is our actions in the present that count.

My 3 year old absolutely adores Melanie. Anyone that can capture my daughter's attention for as long as she did has got that special something about them and Melanie definitely has it. (She has a very unique personality). I think PBS has made a major mistake and there isn't someone else out there that could replace Melanie!
I tink the firing of Melanie is absurd. What she idd seven years ago does not reflect the person she is today. I think that seven years ago might ahve been a difficult time for Melanie and clearly she is a diffrent person now because she alerted the execs right promptly.I believe that the matter should be looked into further and if there are enough parents petitioning,her postion should be reinstated.
Firing her over something she did seven years ago is crazy. She was mature enough to bring it to your attention and you turn around and fire her. You should be ashamed.
My child will miss singing "Head,Shoulders, Knees and Toes" with Melanie every night. This is sad that something she did seven years ago would make her lose her job. I am shocked that PBS who supports groundbreaking and controversial programming, would fire someone for this.
Firing Melanie made my 4 year old cry. They just yanked her off without warning and left my daugther wondering where Melanie went (I told her that Melanie got another job). The least PBS could do was slowly break in another actor the way the producers did with Blues Clues. Young children don't handle change that easily, especially when they get attached.
PBS has become overrun with the crazed and socialistic left. The girl was a horrible host, and i feel she was worse than barney, but my boys liked her. Thats whats most important, how the HECK are they going to know, much less CARE about some joke she did years ago. HEY SPROUT LETS GROW UP AND GET A LIFE!
I can't believe PBS would be capable of such idiocy. You should fire the jerk who made this decision instead. He represents the kind of energy you don't want around. Censorship and cowardice both suck and even more so when they combine together.
Melanie Martinez did this COMEDY/JOKE long before she joined PBS. Children that watched the Good Night Show never heard of Technical Virgin and don't even know what Virgin means, let alone how to look for it on the internet. Give Melanie Martinez her job back, she was wonderful with the children!!
My 2 children are extremely upset that Melanie is no longer on the show... or the fact that there is no show at all. It was a joke from the past. She was a great personality for the children. Her firing is ABSURD!
As a long time supporter of PBS, I am deeply disappointed with PBS Sprout's decision to fire Melanie Martinez over 2 spoofs that she filmed 7 years ago. I've saved the NY Times article in my PBS file and will seriously consider this action when PBS asks for my next annual donation.
