My two boys love to watch and see Melanie in between there favorite shows. She was a vital part of our bedtime routine. My three year old is truley upset that she is no longer on. I think it is a shame to have her terminated or resign for something she did when she was not under your employment at the time. Plus the children wathing your programing are not going to know about the other program she appeared in years ago. I feel she should be given her job back.
my son loves her, has no idea what sex is, I would NEVER allow him to watch a video like that, and who cares anyway?! she was great at what she did for Sprout! BRING HER BACK! if not, I am available-seemed like a cush job!
Who hasn't done something in their past they wish they hadn't? It's not like my 3 year old and 4 year old twins will ever see the video she made. She had a great personality!! No more Sprout for our family unless she's brought back.
I'd like to echo several other people's comments: as a parent of a three-year-old who loves Sprout and Melanie, I too am flabbergasted by her dismissal. Seven years ago she was an actor struggling to get work in NYC, that's what actors do: they take the work that gets offered to them, usually with little or no pay. The PSAs she did were a joke, and a funny one at that.
It most certainly is a clear and blatant double standard that George Carlin narrates another of my son's favorite shows, Thomas the Tank Engine. Perhaps all the Sesame Street Muppets should be fired from Sesame Street because of the inappropriate violence in the Wilkins Coffee parodies that Jim Henson did years before Sesame Street.
The Good Night show with Melanie has been a positive influence on my son, and he is upset that Melanie is no longer on the show. He knows her by name and asked "Where's Melanie?" I told him, "PBS fired her. She's gone." He said, "Why?" And I had to say, "Because PBS is run by dinosaurs."
Bring back Melanie Martinez! You'll be lucky if she actually agrees to work again for a bunch of hypocrites like you.
Having viewed the videos, I can appreciate the discomfiture of the show's producers, and their concerns about objections from some parents. Nevertheless, the videos are like a comtemporary SNL spoof, and even funnier, which isn't saying much. So, I think Melanie's performance on Sprout was wonderful, and that's all that should merit consideration. Please bring her back!
I feel this Is 100% WRONG...what someone did years ago doesn't matter as long as she is doing what is best now, and What people see in her TODAY>>>>> Kids is what she loves than, respect that at the very least....
I am the grandmother of a 2 year old. Anything that upsets her, upsets me and Melanie losing her job has really upset her. She keeps asking what happened to her favorite hostess. Please bring her back for my grandchildren & all the other little ones that miss her so much.
My son and i watch melanie every night on the good night show and i don't think that PBS has a good enough reason for taking such drastic actions on, what i beleive to be harmless!
DON'T LET MELANIE GO!!!
IF MELANIE IS NO LONGER ON THE GOODNIGHT SHOW MY FAMILY WILL NO LONGER SPONSOR PBS OR THE SESAME WORK SHOP!!!
PBS picks and chooses who they want to represent their shows. Why not pull Thomas the Tank Engine because of Alec Baldwin, Ringo Starr and George Carlin? They have done MANY questionable things in their past, some pretty recent. Why not pull Sesame Street off the air because of some of the guests that are on there that have done or said MANY questionable things in their careers. I really don't think that my 3 year old is going to be watching the videos that she did since she can't use the internet. I will make sure my daughter only watches Nick Jr, Noggin and Baby First TV from now on. Shame on you PBS!!
