It is sad that she was let go over something as simple and irrelevant as those short parody's. Young children would not even see them and she is not easily recognizable as Melanie from the good night show. I wonder if this would have happened if she were a man with the same circumstances?
I support this petition because what PBS Kids Sprout did is just assinine. Preschoolers won't see that material, and what happened in the past...is the PAST!
I completly support this petotion because she brought laughter and joy to my 4 kids. my kids would want to go to bed just to see the "good night show" this gave me and my husband some alone time i think pbs should allow Melanie Martinez to come back and fulfill her duties as the host of the "good night show"
This is stupid. And, my son isn't happy, we had a great routine going, and now with Melanie missing, it's all changed. My son will not watch that video, so WHO CARES?
This is just nuts, George Carlin can voice Thomas shows and you're going to fire HER? and don't get me wrong I adore George but come on that's sexist. Bring her BACK
This is just silly. Never mind the freedom of speech issues, what about all the countless actors and musicians that have done 'adult' themed songs, movies, and television shows, but have appeared on Sesame Street or Mr. Rogers? Are they no longer welcome? Will you be destroying all the old episodes?
I feel like the only thing good for kids to watch was just robbed from me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!
I wish to add my voice to the chorus of disapproval regarding the dismissal of Melanie Martinez from The Good Night Show. To call this over reactionary would be a simplification of what you have done. Rather, I believe this to be an extremely discriminatory and sexist decision. George Carlin, whose stand-up career has been of an extremely adult nature and whose film career has also been primarily aimed at adults, has been a featured character on Thomas the Tank Engine on PBS for many years. The likelihood of a child seeing George Carlin's adult work is far, far greater than a toddler surfing YouTube.com and magically being able to see her PSA spoof, let alone understanding what the video is actually about. Shame on you for having a huge double standard when it comes to male and female performers. As a result of your decision, we will be withholding donating to PBS until the current leadership is removed and replaced with rational people who are not subject to the current wave of political correct McCarthyism that is taking place in this nation. Frankly, your cowardice and sexism is shameful and you have tarnished the once proud reputation of PBS. Way to go!
because I think at this time in our world, what child that watches sprout is old enough to serve the net. I hope I never get fired for any of the things that I did while in college. Wow, maybe I shouldn't let my kids associate with me. My point is, they are too young to know anything except that Melanie is the only thing that my kids like about Sprout. I have found though that some of their choices for cartoons are questionale, seeing that they teach word like dumb, and stupid. We don't use that language in our house. So now my kids don't get Melanie, so they don't get Sprout at all...
If she is to be fired then PBS should pull Thomas The Train and Sesame Street as well...those shows have actors who haev done MUCH more provocative work.
Bring her back... we LOVE her...My daughter knows its bed time when she sees Melanie...I am sure that EVERYONE has done something in the past 7 years that they are ashamed of!

My two-year-old LOVED Melanie. She does not have the ability to randomly surf the Internet to find these very mild spoofs of PSAs, and even if she did, she would not understand them. I have removed Sprout form my Favorites buttons on my remote control. My girl just isn't interested if Melanie isn't on it.
Please, Look at others that are on PBS Kids programming. George Carlin and Alec Baldwin.
Bring Melanie back. Both of my children are very upset that she is not on in the evening and "WILL NOT" watch the programs.
This was an odd decision. The children involved couldn't see the offending joke, so the only people who the network could have been afraid of were parents who demanded that actors previous roles not include any dirty jokes, no matter how long ago. Were they really a substantial number? How puritanical.
My 2 year old just loves melaine and has asked where she went for almost 2 weeks now. and to here this was a friend not some one who said yes or no to a questions she was asked 7 yrs ago. What she said is not relavent to what she does on that show or how a child veiws her friendship. If she isnt rehired soon my 2yr old will be watching Nick Jr. Atleast there she won't have to ask why two people she views as friends left her.
Lets move on already it was 7 years ago. Any child watching her show today will not see these other videos. And most parents will get a good chuckle!! Bring her back!
My four year old daughter loved Melanie, an immensely appealing and loveable actress. And she is an actress - prior performances should not be held against her. Our family is outraged by this inappropriate level of censorship.
If they would not have made a big deal about it, no one would have been the wiser. Especially 2-5 year olds. We are getting far too serious as a society! LIGHTEN UP!
It is unfortunate that PBS has terminated Melanie Martinez without considering their viewers. All too often executives out of touch with their customers, make decisions that affect their audience in a negative way. Melanie made my son laugh daily with her stories, games, and gentle attitude. Unless this decision is reversed, I will no longer support PBS, and move on to alternative child programming.
