What Melanie did in her past should not affect her job as host. I saw the video and it is much ado about nothing. Our whole family enjoyed watching her and miss her. We want Melanie back!
I support This Petition. Who cares about what she did in the past. She was AGAINST intercourse. She was good for PBS and my kids loved her. BRING HER BACK.
It is really sad. How have Americans become this way, everyone is so afraid of being politically incorrect, if people were like this in the 1700s we would not even exist as a country. The firing of this person is a travisty and shewas frankly the best part of the Goodnight show.
Doesn't everybody think that PBS should let us do the parenting and decide whom our children watch, did they give birth to our kids? I guess all the execs over there are perfect and have never done anything in their past(puh-leeze), I am outraged!
My daughter loved Melanie, what Melanie did 7 years ago is of no interest to me. What is of interest to me is that her character on the show is a good role model for young children, and young children everywhere love her! We want Melanie back!!!
It is completely outrageous to me Sprout would remove Melanie. No three-year-old like my son cares that she made a video seven years ago! I am disgusted with Sprout's decision. And believe me, if I can convince my son to watch something else, I will. Maybe someone at Sprout can recommend a good response to give a three-year-old when he asks, "Where's Melanie?"

Melanie was wonderful. My 4yo daughter loved her. Her portrayal in the seven year old video was satirical, silly, content the likes of which can be seen on prime time television. If she violated a term of her contract, then penalize her financially and then return her to Sprout. She is a wonderful representative of your network and good for children's programming.
My twins really miss Melanie. I think she was fired unjustly. We all have something in our past we wouldn't want splashed on the internet. Just like Martha Stewart, Melanie is only guilty of being a "SUCCESSFUL WOMAN"!!!
No one should be fired over such comments made 7 years ago. I suppose George Carlin is above this all since he and Thomas are more well-known than Melanie is.
We have't watched Sprout since we heard. I don't like Nick Jr. and Disney as much, but I guess that's where we will be going.
So much for Progressive "Public" broadcasting.
I hope she contacts the ACLU
No PBS programs will air in my house until Melanie is reinstated. As a parent I have no probelms with her other work. My child will not see them so it should not matter. I agree with 6817
I AND MY CHILD LIKE TO WATCH HER AND I DONT CARE IF SHE STARED IN A TRUE FULL BLOWN PORN. MY CHILD WILL NOT BE WATCHING TECHNICAL VIRGIN OR PORNS FOR A LONG TIME. THIS WOMAN SHOULD NOT LOOSE HER JOB OVER TRYING TO MAKE A LIVING.
To whom it may concern,
I want to write to you and give you my un-solicited opinion on your decision to fire Melanie Martines from the "good night show"
I want you to know that I have 2 children. My oldest, Jaclyn, is a little over 2 years old. My son, Bradley, just turned 1 yesterday.
My children watch your good night show every night. It is a ritual in our house. My daughter sings with Melanie and dances to the songs. She stretches and mimics every move Melanie would make. She adored her and enjoyed the format. She knew when all of the shows were coming on and knew that after Pingu at 8:00, it was time for bed. My son has also been watching it and even though he is to young to truly grasp the programs, he still likes it as it gave him a sense of structure to the evening, before bed.
Melanie Martinez was a warm, and caring adult who seamed to enjoy her job. She was good at it and always had a smile on her face. Once the show format changed, with the addition of the character "star", we could sense a dramatic change in Melanie's demeanor on the air. It was obvious that something was going on behind the scenes, and now we know what it was.
She brought, to your attention, these two videos in which she starred in called "Technical Virgins". I have personally seen these two videos and, to be quite honest, have not laughed that hard in a long time. What was in these videos is NO different that what we watch on normal TV every hour of every day. It is far more comical and easier to digest than watching the daily news on CNN or any other news station for that matter. What were you afraid of? Did you think, that in some strange way, our children would jump on Google.com and search for the term "Technical Virgins"? Maybe they will get on the internet and type in www.whitehouse.com/ (A prono site) instead of www.whitehouse.gov/ (the actual US President website)? Did you think that p
It's ridiculous for an employer to fire a person for actions done before he/she was in the company's employ. Job performance should be the deciding factor, and she was doing well.
Melanie is in part an actress just like those on other PBS shows. She did a comedic parody years ago and should not be punished now for it. How many who watch her show now would even see that parody or would know about it if you had not brought it to the attention of everyone. PBS is about education and those who have experience are the best educators.
I have watched the 30 sec videos that Ms. Martinez participated in and did not find them to be offensive in any way. Your decision to remove her from her job with PBS was a bad decision and reminds me of the 1950's McCarthy era witch hunts that attempted to enforce a "moral" code on the entertainment industry. Please put her back on the air. And by the way, my kids watched her show also and they and my wife enjoyed her.
PBS doesn't support comdey? What about the british shows they air? Do THEY (PBS) not understand the underlying sexual content in those? What about the actress who plays Maria on Sesame Street? She participated in a violent movie about a VIGILANTE... DEATH WISH! Should she be fired too? And another actor on Sesame Street has done voice overs for violent video games! This is ridiculous! Also, the comments made by PBS that they are looking for someone NOT an actress for the spot vacated by Melanie... Why did they hire one in the FIRST PLACE? My son loves her! And I have seen both the spoof PSAs... They don't offend me.. and HIGHLY doubt that my 2 year old son will find them on the internet.. (because he surfs the net OH SO MUCH).
the video was a joke! Even if a child were to see the videos, they would not understand what was being discussed. She did the videos YEARS ago, and it was obviously not a problem until just recently.
