Unless George Carlin and Alec Baldwin episodes of Thomas are removed and never played again, Melanie should be brought back to our childrens lives.
Seven years is a long time. Let her past stay in the past. She does a terrific job on the Good Night Show!!
Please bring Melanie back!!!!!
PBS does not have a problem using advertisers, who in my opinion are not socially concious corporations-oh, but they have money...Maybe Melanie can go to Noggin!!
I understand that the video content was for mature adults and not intended for children. One thing we teach our children is forgiveness for their mistakes. I believe Melanie's past should not affect the great work she's doing now.
Parents need to be responsible for what their children are watching. If children young enough to watch and enjoy Sprout are able to access this clip from Melanie's past without a parent's knowlege, what difference does it make? It would seem that the parent would be to blame for not monitoring what information their children are accessing. Personally, my daughter enjoys the Goodnight Show with Melanie, and frankly it has stunk without her. I understand that family activities are important, but it is comforting to know that when we sit down to watch television with my daughter we can watch age appropriate programming on Sprout. I commend Melanie for her honesty and wish to see her back soon!
Melanie's spoof was not mean-spirited or nasty. The idea of firing an actress for this smells like pandering to people who hate PBS. Please reverse her firing.
I find it completely ridiculous she was fired. The president of sprout said "she could lose he credibility with our audience". Ok we are talking about 3,4,and 5 year old children! How outrageous!!!!
Seriously, what the hell people? PBS was always the station that would show dudes screwing or someone saying "muffburger" and now this? Sheesh. The people who have Jesus fish on their cars are going to think you're evil as long as you have Bert and Ernie living together, or try to teach kids a few words in Spanish.
What so good about the night show if Melanie Martinez is not around for the kids show. She fits the character well and does a good job. Bring her and her job back.
I was so upset to hear that Melanie had been fired. She had such a great connection with my two girls, ages 2 and 3. I enjoyed watching her as well, and I loved how my girls would sing the songs and participate with her. She was one of the best parts of your channel. I hope you reconsider your decision.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am the proud father of a little 16 month old little boy named Matthew. My family was very sad and disappointed to hear about your decision to remove Ms. Marquez from the Good Night Show program. We loved watching it together and I thought it was a great show to relax with at night.
I have looked at the videos online and they are not pornographic - no worse than a PG-13 little spoof and clearly funny. I think your pre-emptive firing for something done so far in the past hurts the people who got the most joy out of spending time with the show.
Our little boy does not socialize with other kids at his age and could care less about this "drama". This whole thing would have been yesterday's news by the fall.
I believe that other kids' shows in the past like Sesame Street have had performers with much more sordid, realtime issues and those actors have been kept around. Your stance, in my opinion, is over-reactive and over-protective of your own interests.
Please re-consider and bring back Melanie to your show.
Sincerely,
John Newton

My 1 year son has been watching the Good Night Show. My wife and I enjoy Melanie very much. Don't see the difference between Melanie doing a comedy skit vs George Carlin doing voice work for Thomas the Tank engine. Please return Melanie to the Good Night Show.
Thanks,

I think it's sending the wrong message. Are we trying to teach our kids that your past is what defines you? Or that we ought to judge others as if we ourselves have not done anything wrong. The Technical Virgin clips were funny and not even geared towards kids. Get over it!!!
