PBS, lighten up. In this world in which we live today, Melanie was a welcomed break from reality and had the Blues Clues way with children that only Steve had. A couple of spoofs several years old is a poor excuse to fire Melanie. Our family misses Melanie and is opposed to the decision. What a total blunder for PBS Sprout.
I am a father of 4, two of which are fans of Melanie. By the time my children run across the TechnicalVirgin videos, they will most definitely be far beyond pre-school age. Please don't penalize our children because Melanie had a life before she had children.
I am a mother of two toddlers who watch the good night show every night personally I believe everyone is entitled to their mistakes My children have already noticed Miss Melanie missing and have asked why she is gone BRING HER BACK PLEASE
This is ridiculous, not only for the time that had passed, but the hypocrisy of the whole "inappropriate" ideology. Imagine, perhaps one or 2 of the kids who watch Sprouts' parents might even engage in anal or use a vibrator! Shocking!
Shame on Sprout! I have blocked them on my Sat box and told my kids they were cancelled. I guess it was okay for Sesame Street's (a joint venturer of Sprout) veteranarian to be semi-nude on the Sopranos. What a double standard. I hope she sues the the you know what out of Sprout.
There have been other actors on PBS shows who have had unsavory roles -- Jason Alexander and George Carlin. Why is Melanie being set out as the example for the triumph of the conservative right?
because if people need to learn that even childrens show actors are real people. And what they did when they were younger shouldn't tarnish the current persons job.
This is so frustrating. This kind of insane reaction is most of whats wrong with America. I can't beleive that PBS is afraid of the minority, instrad of supporting the majority of their actual viewers. I cannot support PBS any longer. They have FAILED us all.
If Melanie had not been taken off the air, the people that view the program probably would have never known - after all, we are LOOKING for wholesome programming for our families.......
We want Melanie Back. She was and still is a part of our good night routine. As a parent I need her back on the air to help my bedtime routine to run peacefully ( it's a good thing I taped some of the shows. Otherwise life with my 2year old twins would be hell). Bring Melanie Back! We need her!
Shame on you Sprout. What she did was something silly, humorous and harmless. You have officially lost another household of viewership. Maybe next time you could use your heads, explain to viewer what the situation is, and get their opinions, before making a stupid decision like this. If anything, you have helped her image (as someone who was not afraid to tell the truth) and tarnished your own.
This is a double standard. Melanie does what is clearly a parady and she gets fired. There are other male stars on PBS shows who have done things I consider far worse for my child to see, drugs for example. Let's get real and cut the double standards. Bring back Melanie.
I have two daughters, 3 & 5, who love Melanie. It is ridiculous that she would be fired over this, particularly considering that the videos were made before she took the job at PBS. Even if she made them during her job at PBS, they are clearly satire and completely safe. What is PBS thinking?
BRING MELANIE BACK!!! The GNS is just not hte same without her crafts and stories and games. My two children (4 & 2) loved her. The show is boring now!! She did something 7 years ago, big deal, does that have any meaing on what she was doing NOW? If you looked into every "actor's" past I'm sure there would be something questionable for most of them, then if that was the case you would have NO PROGRAM!!! Bring her BACK!!!
My daughter enjoyed the Goodnight Show and loved Melanie. Children this age would only see these SNL-style clips only if someone deliberatly show it to them, and they still wouldn't understand. It's hypocritical of Sprout to fire Melanie with other PBS actors have down much more crash stuff.
