Iknow it probably means nothing to you but because of your firnig og melaine my sons no longer watch pbs and i will never donate to your station. So if something came out about your top guys that happened 7 years ago will you get rid of them too?
If I thought my 2 year old might be surfing the net and run across her video I might think the firing appropriate. But, I hesitate to think that might happen; so PBS, get with reality! You've only suceeded in depriving yourselves of a more sucessful program.
My 2 yr old son loves his melanie, Who cares about something someone did 7 years ago...look what the president of the USA did......no one got rid of him!!!!!!
I offer my support to Ms. Melanie and believe that the right thing for PBS to do would be to re-hire Ms. Melanie and give her spot back on The Goodnight Show. My 3-year-old son only knows that he misses his time with "Miss Melody" before bed each night. He is not aware of any other aspect of the "incident". We want Miss Melanie to come back to The Goodnight Show. PLEASE!!!
I have supported PBS for many years. If this is how corroded and anal that this organization has become I will be moving my support to other sources of edutainment for my two children. PBS show your smarts and reverse this corporate screw up.
Why is it we must we punish anyone who makes a joke? Or is it only that decency requires that we be totally unsmiling?
A satire is an adult concept. We have to monitor what our kids watch, internet, tv, cable. there is a trend to let the government's heavy hand do the talking and bow to the most vocal common demoninator.
I'm sure if we look hard enough we will find dirt on everyone. Let's get off our high horse and put the kids before ourselves. What could be worse than one of the Baldwin brothers. They are hardly role models. George Carlin? He's not someone to look upto. Dr. Ruth? Please! The show is directed at 2-5 year olds. I assure you, they are not going to surf on the internet and find the technical virgin website. At least not if we're doing our jobs as parents. Please bring her back.
We support the petition because she was very energetic and did a good job of helping to settle down our kids before bedtime. On the show she's appropriate and great. Ithink Sprout made a mistake.
Even though they probably have not missed my childrens absence, as they now watch alternate programming, but the sponsers who pay the bills for Sprout night.
Our whole family would like to see Melanie back, and until then we are done with your channel, and sponsers.
it's ridiculous that she was fired for something that was done so long ago and and not that inappropriate. I mean come on it's not like she was undressed on tv or anything or in a porn movie
My son has lost his best friend; he asks every night where she is. Who among us hasn't done something in the past that might preclude us fom being associated with kids tv!
Bring Melanie back, the kids don't see what she did, only what she does now and that is host a great nighttime show. We miss her. I am sure many of these kids hear much worse in schools and so on. While on the show she acts appropriately and we love her!!!!
Perhaps they did her a favor...who needs PBS with talent like hers? The way I see it, it's their loss. This chick should be on Comedy Central along side Dave Chapelle and Carlos Mencia.
The woman brought a great energy to the children who watched the show and to can her over something this silly smacks of puritanical finger wagging. Also must agree with the poster who questioned the continued running of "Thomas," complete with voice work by George Carlin. My child no longer watches the show and we'll drop the extended DirecTV service that we were getting in order to to receive the channel. Sorry. Can't support an organization with its priorities so out of whack.
It is ridiculous for the network to cancel her for being in an amusing video. Sandy Wax, the network president said, "PBS Kids Sprout has determined that the dialogue in this video is inappropriate for her role as a preschool program host and may undermine her character's credibility with our audience." Your audience is 2-7 years old. In the extremely unlikely chance that they found the video, they probably wouldn't understand half of it.
Quality entertainment for children is difficult to find.
Please bring her back.
This decision is just wrong. this is my guess but,I think there are far more people against this ruling than their are for it.
I have two boys who really enjoy the show that she helped create. It is very sad not to see her any more . most parents know of George Carlin who narrates Thomas the tank engine on PBS, and they would also know that he has a mouth like a sewer.I've heard Dr.Ruth and Alec Baldwin voices on PBS. Talk about past. My kids may not know who they are but I do. I know Melanie was the face of the goodnight show, but let's be fair here. There should not be a double standard. we all have a past and we regret some things we may have done. with Melanie Martinez on PBS Sprout, there is not a better childrens television program.I hope the powers that be at PBS and their sponsors change their decision. If not, I encourage every parent who loves what this show meant to their kids to boycott every sponsor on pbs. because you can only get the attention of big corporations by affecting their bottom line.
The shows are basically the same, though my children miss Melanie.
I do not intend on sharing any past videos with my children, nor should any other parent. With that in mind, these are college level and type videos, that were made many years ago, and have no relavance to current standards.
I think Sprout made a mistake.
Even though they probably have not missed my childrens absence, as they now watch alternate programming, but the sponsers who pay the bills for Sprout might.
I, my wife and children all want Melanie back, and until then we are done with your channel, and sponsers.
Anyone who listens to us, also hears the same story.
Ultra conservatism, is a personal choice, not a mandate.
Admit you were wrong, and rehire Melanie.
This was an absolutely outrageous decision made by PBS! My 2 yr old son loved Melanie! I have always restricted the amount of televison that he watches until we found Sprout TV. He loves it and the shows are much more appropriate for his age. As a parent I could appreciate how Melanie was able to make a connection with such a young child. To this day he asks if he can 'watch Melanie' before bed. I think that if a parent allows thier child to see the videos she made 7 YEARS AGO they are to blame for that! PBS has alot of employees who I'm sure have their own hidden secrets- we don't have to see them on video to know that each and every one of us has done something in the past that they regret doing now. Does that change who we are,the talents we posess, or the people we have become? She has a small child to support. Clearly she is a good parent and is trying to set a different example to her child and to our children than that of what those videos portrayed. PBS should be all about the children since that is their basic audience. Why take away someone who does such a great job? PBS_ GET A LIFE!!!!!
BECAUSE IN THE FIRST PLACE, I DON'T THINK WHAT SHE DID WAS WORTH GETTING FIRED FOR. AND TO ME, JUST WATCHING MY TWO SONS ENJOY, "WHAT SHE OBVIOUSLY IS VERY GOOD AT", WAS THE BEST PART THE DAY FOR ME.I DON'T THINK THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THE DECISIONS AT PBS, HAVE CHILDREN WHO WATCH THE GOODNIGHT SHOW. BECAUSE IF THEY DID,SHE WOULD PROBABLY STILL BE WITH THE SHOW. BRING MELANIE BACK!
I watch that show every night with my daughter and I believe that she shouldn't have been fired for something that happend in her past. She was a fabulous host. My husband and I enjoyed watching the good night show mainly because of her.
I think firing Melanie for something that stupid is an outrage. Bring her back to Sprout. It's not like the preschooler's will see what she did, and obviously the parents don't care. It was 7 years ago, get over it.
OH PLEASE, WHAT SHE DID 7 YEARS AGO IS IRRELEVANT TO WHAT SHE DOES NOW, JUST LIKE SOMEONE ELSE SAID YOU HAD GEORGE CARLIN ON THOMAS TRAIN (REAL GOOD ROLE MODEL), AND ON TOP OF THAT YOU HAD ALEC BALDWIN, WASN'T HE THE ONE THAT BEAT HIS WIFE.
My child was heartbroken when Melanie left. I'm not too worried about him surfing the net for Technical Virgin. PBS is more craven than the so-called commercial networks.
My child has been asking me daily where "big sister" is. I assumed that maybe she was on maternity leave or ill. I told my child that she was sleeping.. I finally decided to look into what really happened to Melanie, only to find the true reason.
Though regrettable that she took part in short skits that PBS has deemed inappropriate, I personally believe the action against Melanie Martinez is wrong.
Young children, in which the show is geared towards, is use to a fixed schedules and patterns. Removing Melanie has disrupted my child's schedule.
Many children in the age group that the show is geared towards (
I hope Melanie consults a good employment lawyer (I know several, BTW, in Boston). Despite not particularly liking her (sorry!), I think she got poorly treated for a silly past indiscretion.
The firing of Mrs. Martinez should generate public outrage. It is a decision that tramples upon and infringes not only the constitutional rights of Mrs. Martinez, but also the public at large. PBS's actions bare strong resemblence to the "Orwellian" "big" brother sensorship that we would hope PBS would be a strong opponent of; and a promoter of free speech. My 4 yr old daughter is crushed!!!!! How do I explain this to her?
I support this petion, bring Melanie & Hush back. The demographics you appeal to, do not surf the net. They simply know Melanie as an kind voice & a friendly face. She brought life to your programming & our kids miss "The Goodnight Show."
Come on guys. I think you are sending mixed messages. Tollerance in the cartoons but not practicing what you preach. I am so glad that PBS Kids Sprout is teaching intollerance. God knows we didn't get enough of that from Hitler and the KKK.
