I think it's horrible to fire someone for the wrong reasons. This is definitely the wrong reason for anyone to be fired. I think it should be investigated on why she was really fired. It looks to me to be crooked.
Sprout has made a terrible decision in removing Melanie Martinez from The Good Night Show. The videos are clearly satirical in nature and should have no bearing on her appearance on the show. If, infact, she did disclose the videos on her employment application I would expect to see legal action against Sprout, PBS Comcast and HIT in the near future.
Melanie is a good role model for children and she is very good at her job on the Good Night Show. Not many people can do what she does. I don't think those commercials she did are even that big a deal. I feel she deserves a second chance.
My kids & I sure miss Melanie and probably would never know anything about a PSA from years ago. I certainly think she will go on to better things. We keep our eye out for her.
. These videos were created for satirical purposes. The audience that PBS is aiming for will not descover these videos for at least another 7 or 8 years. That's more than enough time to forget her.
I support this petition. I think it's ridiculous that you could fire her over something that aired 7 years ago. My child misses Melanie and I am shocked at the way you handled this situation.
My 2 year old misses Melanie and looks for her everyday. sprout just isn't the same without her. were not going to watch sprout anymore until melanie is back.
chris meloni played a creepy child molester and murderer on hbo's oz and he appears frequently on noggin. gina from sesame street was half naked on the sopranos. kids don't know the difference and wouldn't have known what melanie was up to had she not been fired. my kid wouldn't understand if she DID know...
thank the moron who brought up the technical virgin, for i never heard of the darn thing before the goodnight show was aired. i agree the kids would not see melanie as the woman joking about oral sex in the technical virgin, it would be the adults for they were the morons who dug up the technical virgin to begin with. it was pbs's fault for not checking into this woman's past, so firing her was injust. she wasn't nude in the movie, and to set the record straight about the guy who mentioned ringo starr, he was fired as a spokesman for a wine cooler ad after his battle with drinking was made public.
Bring her back, this was a harmless prank. Get real murders are allowed to play in the NBA and NFL and are idolized by children. Nobody even knew that Melanie did this skits until you fired her. How stupid you are
My 2&a half yr.old son misses Melanie. He even liked Star, which was a new addition to the show. He got all excited when he saw them on the wikipedia site. She seemed to be the perfect babysitter. She had just the right presense for hosting the show for preschoolers.
I agree with the guy who mentions featuring Ringo Starr and George Carlin. This move seems totally hypocritical and inconsistant. I'll think twice about what I'm donating my money towards.
Our 21 month old son watched "nelaniee", as he called her, every day and we miss her very much. She is a great host and when our son asks us to turn our tv to sprout, he doesn't say "sprout", he says "Nelaniee Please!!!"
My kids love Meanie and miss her. PLEASE BRING HER BACK! Try and find an actress who hasn't been involved in something sexual. What a ridiculous excuse for firing her. I think she was a great host and my kids looked forward to seeing her every night, even in the same clothes and in pre-recorded spots. Even still, when I brought the wikipedia entry up on my screen to find out what happened to Melanie, my daughter yelled out, very excited when she saw her picture, "MELANIE!"
This was hypocritical to say the least. Sesame Street has had various Actors that have gone on to play "roles" that would be considered unsavory for children. Natalie Portman was one such person, and she went on to play a stripper in the movie "Closer." Would Sesame Street say no to her as a guest appearance now? The answer is probably not.
PBS=Pretty Boring Station...These are the same people that rallied behind Bill Clinton during his Monica days in the "Oral" office. What a bunch of liberal hypocrites! Bring back Melanie and take a joke!! It's not like she pulled a Pee Wee!!
I find the rationale for the firing utterly silly. She is an actress, the persona we see on PBS or in this film is not the real her. Sesame Street teaches between things that are "real" and things that are "imaginary". Maybe PBS should take a lesson, too.
Melanie was wonderful for our 3 year old and we looked forward to her as our 10 week old twins grow. Our 3 year old faithfully watched Melanie and still today asks to watch the Good Night Show. Just 2 nights ago he was singing one of Melanie's songs. As a parent, I protect my kids from anything with adult content. They will never see what she did 7 years ago as I'm a better parent than that. We won't watch the Good Night show you currently are running now, it's not any different than the day programs on Sprout. The dancing, singing, crafts, etc. that Melanie brought to the show were educational and much better than "Mr. Mailman" making deliveries around the States. You've got to bring Melanie back so kids all over will be happy again. Everyone has a past and can't erase parts of our lives that we wish we could. She's out to touch hearts of little ones, not to hurt them.
She did absolutely nothing wrong. It was meant as a joke while she was a young college person. Besides PBS celebrates freedom of speech and democracy. maybe they need to revisit those things.
Any child who would be watching Sprout is not old enough to be looking up videos on the internet. It's completely pointless to fire her. And both of my kids miss her terribly.
I support this petition because PBS credits itself with free speech, yet this women isn't allowed that liberty in her life? She is an adult, can't she indulge in some adult humor in her career?
did we not all make mistakes when we were young? And do you think just because i have kids there is no sex in my life. NOT IN FRONT OF THE KIDS OF COURSE Or inocent flirting? GET OVER YOUR SELVES.sHE WAS A WONDERFUL HOST. VERY LIKEABLE!!}
Melanie was a great host. I would love to know the sexual history of those who decided to fire her. I would imagine it is not as clean as the hypocrisy they portray by firing her. Its not like she was in a porno movie. Thousands of kids loved Melanie and are now heartbroken. I didn't know Maria (Sesame Street) was in playboy 20 years ago either, and it didn't emotionally scar me to watch her. Give Melanie a break and bring her back, WITHOUT STAR!!!
If PBS is "PUBLIC" and supported by the people, why shouldn't they also support basic liberties, like free speach? Laugh a little, life isn't THAT serious is it?
because Noel MacNeal has been chosen to replace her while they search for a new host. Are they serious? This guy was involved with the Seasame Street spoof Knee High Park on The Dave Chappelle Show! "But he just had his hand up a puppet penis" says Paula Kerger, idiot president of PBS.
This was absolutely ridiculous. In a land and medium where free speech should be praised and celebrated, things like this shouldn't happen. Perhaps an investigation into why watermelons appear next to Dinah Doll's market stand for no apparent reason would be time better spent by the concerned folks at Sprout.
I support this petition because it is completely backwards as to how the system should work. Should comedy be banned from our society? Will the next step to be firing employees based on the types of wisecracks they employ in their private life, or for having viewpoints other than yours on an internet blog?
I am dismayed that an actor's prior experience solely as an actor should play a role in this person's firing. Counter examples include relatively famous politicians on Sesame Street how are almost certainly corrupt at some level. The corruption of those people is real where Melanie's is arguably not. Please reconsider your decision!
U americans... stop beeing such hipocrits. Rehire the girl, its just a joke, like your Bush guy ...home of the free(just as long as u dont mess with puritans).
unbelievable, "The America is just a myth"...there is no freedom of anything...What's next: someone play joke and get stoned by bunch of idiots who runs the stuff. The hell with them!
Ms. Martinez did short videos spoofing a certain lifestyle choice seven years ago. As the father of a five-year-old "sproutlet" girl who truly enjoyed Melanie and her show, I hope PBS can stand by their position of "freedom of expression" honestly review, and then reverse this tragic decision.
As a father of three, including one who loved Melanie on Sprout, I find PBS's actions to be knee-jerk and overly PC. As others have said, firing Melanie over what was essentially another acting job, especially one from so long ago, is extremely disappointing. I guarantee you it will factor in to how much my wife and I contribute to PBS this year--or whether we do at all. Hit 'em in the wallet, people. Then they'll listen.
Melanie exemplified the values and actions we try to instil in our children every day. Mealanie displayed warmth, kindness and comfort. Daily Melanie showed an enthusiasm for life and exhibited a genuine spirit that was not lost in a commercial world filled with over indulgence. My 2 1/3 yr old daughter responded to the simplicity and the comforting words of Melanie. She sang the songs, participated in games, and learned the sign language all awhile grabbing a pillow to curl up to and fall asleep. My one year old son stopped everything and just grinned at Melanie when he heard her sweet voice. In todays world we would be hard pressed to find close perfection in anyone. If PBS/Sprout doesn;t bring her back maybe another network will.
because the technicalvirgin videos were very funny, and were meant to be so. Firing her over a series of comical shorts is just plaain stupid. She deserves better then that.
You have a host who has connected with our children. Someone who our children have a hard time waiting for each day their time to watch tv and watch their sprouts channel with Melanie. My daughter would dance around the living room following Melanies leads each evening. In fact that was one of her most sought after nightly routines was to dance with Melanie. What you have done is shamefull and to really make a stand, you should reverse your decision and bring melanie back. Our children deserve it. By the way, how many prescholars do you know who search the web and would even know this was her even if they saw it! Give us a break and bring her back!
I support this petition because Melanie has brought educational and inspirational teachings to our children! Something done over 7 yrs ago to avoid teen pregnancy should be viewed as a benefit to society! Worry about things that are really important like brining Melanie back PBS!!
My 4 year old daughter loves Melanie, it's not like she knows that Melanie appeared in an innapropriate comedy video 7 years ago! Her past does not change the fact that kids love her, and will be very upset to see her gone-how do I explain to my kids why Melanie is off the good night show?!
