My 18mo old son LOVES Melanie! He stopped whatever he was doing when she came on-screen. Considering that the target audience for "The Good Night Show" most likely does not have internet access (SARCASM) I cannot believe any of her young viewers would be exposed to her past project. I read a great article that compared this to Johnny Depp not being allowed to be in "Pirates of the Carribean" because of his drug pushing role in "Blow" - I couldn't agree more - PBS- YOU'RE RIDICULOUS!
My 1yr old little girl loves melanie.Everytime she's on, she watches her with so much amazement.PBS should not be so quick to judgement. We all have made mistakes from the past and learned from it,who are you to judge.I support the petition to bring her back.Let the viewer be the judge, afterall without public support PBS should not exist.
My daughter smiles when she see the GNS transition because she thinks Melanie will follow, it saddens me when she is left wondering when he friend will show up.
it's a damn parody. It was satire. There was nothing elicit about it apart from the frank sexual language- which was brief and, again, in the interest of humor only. No one anywhere near the age of child who would watch that show would ever have seen her on the internet in that short, short clip. It's ridiculous.
Melanie should NOT be fired. First of all, this was many years ago. Second, It is not like she was naked or something. And finally, your target demographic is NOT watching those spoof commercials!!
Why does it matter what she did 7 years ago? Come on, if she is doing the right job who cares, nobody knew anything until you actually decided to fire her. Otherwise things would have been just fine.
Melanie is only human!! I mean how many of us have done things in our lives that we didnt think would be a big deal?? BRING her BACK!!!! My 3 girls absolutely LOVE her!!!!
Melanie is loved by my son(3) and daughter(5). They sung and danced with her every night. It was cool to have a early evening show that they enjoyed right before bed. We support this petition. Bring her back!!!
I think as a parent and a father we all have a past'and u dont punish people for mtheir past.At 4 yrs old my son says to me when is MELANIE coming back from vacation!!!!!!!!!
I support this petition because it seems a little strange that PBS is taking this stance. Isn't PBS the ones who have been lambasted by the conservative right lately? Ah, maybe the 'partners' who created Sprout put the hammer down on PBS. No matter, my daughter will now have to watch something else I guess. Without Melanie, she's quite frankly, bored.
because my 3 y.o. daughter LOVES Melanie and keeps asking, "Where's Melanie??" I wouldn't be aware of the videos if she hadn't been fired and can't imagine any of the children going websurfing and finding them. It's in the past, s-e-v-e-n YEARS ago, a spoof no less... not some playboy mag layout... forget about it. What about George Carlin on Thomas the Tank Engine, and Robin Williams on Sesame Street? Do they have pristine histories? Are they "really representative of PBS and Sesame and kids' entertainment"? Do they embody the service itself"? I think it took courage for Melanie to approach her employers and inform them of the videos. My 3 y.o. is learning to be honest and admit when she does something wrong, instead of trying to cover it up. At 30 y.o. I think Melanie embodies that message and deserves better than being fired for a *spoof* 7 years ago.
If we were able to see our future in a crystal ball I'm sure we all would have made some different decisions. How was she to know that a $500 paycheck would ruin her life years later. Come on, even a bankruptcy falls off after seven years.
I can't believe Melanie is gone. She was the one live character that my 1-year old totally went crazy for. She made a connection with children, especially mine. I doubt very highly that my daughter or anyone else's would know or care what she did 7 years ago. It's time the PBS mgmt listened to their viewers and not their board.
I am sure someone already mentioned this, but hasn't Alec Baldwin played a homosexual pediphile sexual preditor on TV in the past? How many folks saw those episodes of SNL? not the same network, but come on.
My children were identifying with this young woman. i dont know anyone in this world that has made a mistake as a "young person" i say give this girl a second chance.
If PBS truly has no sense of humor then they should pull the plug on all Thomas the Tank Engine shows with George Carlin as the narrator. Mr. Carlin's act is filled with vulgarity. My son and daughter loved watching Melanie and the GoodNight show (minus that star).
I support this petition because PBS is showing weakness to George Bush and the horrible censorship that has become his hallmark. I thought PBS was an independent voice? Nope, must just be a mouth piece for the horrible Bush. It looks like the horrible Bush has won, once again, and PBS has become the raped cellmate of Bush. Too bad they won't assert themselves and really show Bush and the censorship regime a taste of their own medicine by hiring Melanie Back! Take that Michael Powell!!!
Because shes a hottie!
And for the fact that what she did before her current/ex job has nothing to do with PBS.
I have an idea - Lets sack all of pbs, because im sure a few of them have done a few dirty jokes in their time.
I think PBS has made a grave error in judgment. My three year old is crushed that Melanie is no longer on the Good Night show and asks about her almost daily. I admit that I wasn't her greatest fan (I am, after all, no longer a toddler) but I respected her work and know how much she means to millions of little ones. I can't believe that a network who has long been prided upon being a pillar of advanced and liberal thinking is now kowtowing in the guise of "protecting the children" in the interest of RATINGS!
See what happens when you go commercial???
All three of my kids loved watching Melanie on the GoodNight show. So sad that PBS should punish her for something she has done 7 years ago. My kids don't want to watch Sprout anymore. :(
because my son (now almost 21 months) really loved Melanie and really misses her. And, while the show was, at times, a bit hokey, I liked that it gave me a bit of a break while I was trying to get dinner. I understand that PBS would not condone the content of the videos but, if they had handled this better very few of us would even be aware of those videos. How many of those in power at PBS / Comcast (partners in Sprout) have nothing in their past that they regret and hope does not become public knowledge? I think most of us have done some stupid things in our past and would prefer that those things remain in the past. Granted these mistakes may not be the caliber of making those videos but, hey, my point is, we all make mistakes! Please let Melanie come back ... she's very good at what she does on the Good Night Show and I really cannot imagine anyone else in that role!
I now see why my 3 year old doesn't want to watch The Goodnight Show on Sprout any longer. It's a shame that PBS felt the need to expose my son to the our politically correct adult world at such an early age.
This is goes against everything that PBS is supposed to stand for. My son keeps asking when Melanie is coming back from vacation. Please bring her back. But get rid of Star. He has creepy voice.
PBS has become handmaid to this administration. Sprout is not political. I have a 4 year old. He doesn't care what Melanie said or did and neither do I!
My wife, almost 2 year old son and I love Melanie on this show. I love PBS, NPR and all things for which public media stands - but I do not support their firing of Melanie.
My Children keep asking when is she coming back? they don't even want to watch Sprout anymore, when I turn it on and they see the Sprout Icon on the bottom of the screen, they tell me to turn it or they leave the room. My daughter is 3 and my son is almost 2.
My son is learning disabled, he is ten. We found out what happened. He cried I got mad. I did leave a resoectful message to Sandy Wax. Ms. Martinez, came forward. She was honest enough to do this. And I think it completely wrong for of PBS Sprout to dismiss her for something that happned over 5 years ago. I sincerely hope Sandy Wax get swamped with calls and emails to make her see that she and whom everelse that mad this decsion was wrong. The next thing to do if this does not work is to stop making pledges to PBS, and stop purchasing the items that are shown on PBS programing.
Because kids are not watching this programs, if any, adults do tehrefore is in our best interest to bring Melanie back to where she belongs: the tonight show
THE GOODNIGHT SHOW NEEDS HER BACK. Sprout is mediocre without her. I still sing to my daughter the song that Melanie sings each night at 8 for good night...PLEASE BRING HER BACK!
My daughter likes Melanie! Smiles every time that Melanie appears (appeared) between PBS Sprout shows.
I really doubt that when my daughter is old enough to laugh about the spoof PSA's that she will associate Melanie with them or care that she was in them.
1st Amendment Rocks!

i support this because people in a inligthed world shuold be able to se the difference between kids tv and internet satire and allow peolple to have different sides of their personallity.
i support this petiton because she is a wonderful example to my child she warm and caring what she has done in the past is just that are children will never see that side of her so why would it matter people should stop being so uptight about life we all do something that we shouldnt if thats the point no one shouldnt be having sex or any thing else in hat matter so grow up all see is doing is promoting some thing thst may save some young kid from getting knocked up or getting some one knocked up so get with the program thanx ive said my peace
PBS had NO problem with George Carlin, Alec Baldwin, Whoopie Goldberg and a slew of foulmouthed celebs, but two 30 second parodies from 7 years ago is too much?
