i wasn't crazy about the whole new format, but my kids loved it and it grew on me and the wife. melanie is definitely missed.
when i heard about her dismissal and the reason behind it, i wondered when two wrongs are going to stop making a right...
please reinstate melanie.
thanks.
My kids ask about Melanie on a regular basis and they don't watch sprout since she was fired. They-- and I-- miss the goodnight show with Melanie tremendously. Please bring her back.
Melanie's audience has NO idea why the controversy...they only know that they miss her! PBS has over-reacted and stirred up a bigger pot than just ignoring it.
it's the most ridiculous decision i have ever heard of. i'd like to see the PBS executives' lives viewed with the same scrutiny they have subjected this poor girl to. maybe then they'd think twice about ruining people over trivial matters.
This is a perfect example of the backward thinking that plagues our country and television. This sort of double standard is what makes our children angry and vunerable. This woman didn't lie or hide her past she told them and it is a very minor thing I am more likely to want her as a role model for my children than consider her a threat. PBS and CBS and any other fool who disagrees should look into the mirror and face who they really are and then say what don't I want my children to know about me.
I just had a chance to view this new person Leo. He and his "Star" are no comparision to Melanie!! I was so impressed with PBS Sprout - but not without Melanie! Bring her back.
You mean Melanie wasn't created at PBS and she had a real life? It is nice to see that PBS can go as overboard as the FCC! Hopefully in the next 10 years we can finally turn the "democracy" into full-fledged Marxist society or better yet Communism. That way we can stop thinking and let the government make our decisions for us.
But Seriously, Melanie was doing a great job at entertaining my children. I do believe that is why she was hired wasn't she?
my son is 15 months old and he used to race to the television when he heard Melanies voice. He loved watching her before bedtime. I think it's insane that you can fire someone (as perfect as she was for that show) because of their past. I just want to say good luck replacing her because this goofy new guy and that crazy looking star aren't going to cut it, my son pays no attention to them at all.
My son watched Melanie every night. Isn't George Carlin one of the Narrator's for Thomas the Tank Engine? Has noone at PBS seen his stand up? I mean if they are going to overreact to that level then why do they still air Thomas? PBS really needs to bring Melanie back.
because these two parodies have no bearings on her job that she does every night for the goodnight show. I honestly dont think that my child will ever see her two 30 second parodies. I guarantee everyone has done something in their past that they aren't proud of including the same PBS workers who probably fired Melanie in the first place. People who live in glass houses shouldnt throw stones. Give the girl hewr job back.
Doesn't George Carlin work on Thomas the Tank Engine? He has a bit more of a sorted past. What about Alec Baldwin? He narrates for the Thomas Train videos and he did a pedophile Scout Master skit numerous times on Saturday Night Live. Double standard anyone?
my daughter does'nt
like kevin she ask for melanie we put a dvd instead sorry i guess you can't please everyone bring her back for the children not for your agenda
I've seen the video. It in no way affects my decision to allow my 3 year old to watch Melanie's Good Night Show. PBS fired her? What of George Carlin on the Thomas Train videos? Surely everyone recalls his vastly comical "censored" word list? Or what of Alec Baldwins skits on Saturday Night Live portraying a questionable Scout master? Double standards on PBS' behalf, perhaps?
I think she did a good job. And i don't think something u did 7 years ago should count. I haven't seen the video, but she keeps her clothes on...so what's the big deal. She's an actress..and u have to take the job when you can get it.
She was great, my kids would have never known about such spoof 7 years ago. What a dumb decision PBS. You should have screened better I guess 2 years ago. Who knows what other indecent people "lurk" around PBS...perhaps it's execs?
As far as I am comncerned Melanie has done a great job since being on PBS Kids Sprout TV. I have never seen any inappropriate behavior from her during air time. Maybe we should look into the pasts of all the people associated with PBS. Who knows if they are trying to influence our children in some evil way!!!!!
She was very good at her job and the kids love her!! My son used to get so excited when he saw her and joined in with her as she sung songs and did her dances etc...why would you want to disappoint all those children???
My nieces and nephews (7 total) and I miss Melanie very much. She is one of the very rare people who comes across positively to children. God Bless her!
because I my two children ADORED Melanie and looked forward to Sprout and Melanie every night--it was a ritual. I think PBS jumped the gun on this one! You need to publicly apologize to Melanie! How petty!
Firing her was ridiculous. It's not like my 2 year old is going to visit these videos on the internet for Christ's sake. Bunch of idiots at PBS I guess!
What a joke PBS is. GRADE A. Hypocrits.
To fire an actor for their past work is rediculous and shallow.
PBS is publicly funded, so send your congressman a note to urge him to cut off their funding.
PBS doesn't need the taxpayers money, but it helps pay for the mansions and lemo drivers for the people that run it.
as someone has pointed out, even the late Mr. Rogers had a past! The past is irrelevant and the critics are speaking! Melanie has done an incredible job and all kids who watch PBS Kids Sprout love her. My kids adored Melanie. We thought it was strange that she no longer was on TV. That is when I found out about all of this irrelevant junk! Most likely, the executives of PBS have some kind of controversial past that we have not heard about..yet. If we began to dig deep, I am sure we will find some sort of controversy with any or all of the PBS shows' actors, artists, employees, etc.
Get over it! Please bring Melanie back!
because a person should get to move foward in life not have to answer for their past, especially something so trivial,I would think if they were worried about Melanie's past they would have investigated it BEFORE they extended an offer of employment, that's what most reputable companies do, right? I think there is much more complex reason behing her termination, and i believe this was just a lame excuse to excuse her! WE WANT MELANIE BACK! my 5 year old son misses Melanie very much, as i am sure several other youngsters do, she did a great job good luck finding someone as good as her i don't believe you will be able to.
I support this petition because
this young lady was good at her job and appeared to place a great deal of effort into the part. It is ashame that a young professional, such as Melanie, has to answer for a semi-controversial PSA over seven years ago. I would encourage PBS executives to stop living in the past and give her the job back.
I support this petition because Melanie was good with the kids, especially my 3 year old son who looked forward to seeing her in the afternoon. I'm sure none of the PBS executives have any skeletons in their closets. You know, things they've done in the past that would obviously get them fired now!
My children loved to watch Melanie on the Good Night show, especially my 1 year-old son. I also disagree with the hypocricy of PBS to fight the FCC on indecency rulings yet at the same time, allowing a person's past experience to influence a decision as to the appropriateness of kids role model. It's a person's current actions that matter, not what they did before.
because it is absolute hypocrisy fro or PBS, who shining example of tolerance all people, to fire her for something she performed in as an actress and student.
COME ON PBS SPROUT this happened SEVEN YEARS AGO. Put Melanie back on! All my preschooler can think about is where is Melanie? This is an outrage and makes me mad enough to boycott Sprout! Yeah, I'm sure you people who make all the decisions for Sprout have a few skeletons in your closet too!
My 4-year-old daughter is of Hispanic descent and she locked on to Melanie right away, loving everything she did This type of connection is VERY important to me as a parent. She even asked that we do her hair "like Melanie's." I totally appreciated Melanie as a presenter and the rare way in which she represented Hispanic women as something other than sex objects. We love her bright smile, enthusiastic personality and her hair! I don't like that she made two inappropriate videos, but I fail to see the impact in her role on The Good Night Show or in my daughter's innocent worldview. Let's be "big sprouts" about this and bring back Melanie!
Our daughters 3 and 1 loved to see her on the TV. They loved to watch her and we likied the way she presented herslef on the TV. She should be brought back ASAP.
My toddler son use to stop everything he's doing when he hears Melanie's voice. He will smile and sing along with Melanie every time she is singing. I tried to draw his attention to the new host Sprout is introducing but he shows no interest at all. Please reconsider your decision PBS, you need to reevaluate the situation and bring back the much loved host. She has touched the hearts and lives of many children...
My four-year-old daughter loves PBS Kids Sprout, especially Melanie. To us PBS has always represented the last hold out for healthy educational television for children. That's why we were so suprised and distraught when we read about the dismissal of Melanie Martinez. What you did doesn't seem congruent with the progressive traditions of PBS. As loyal PBS viewers and financial supporters, we are very disappointed with your decision. Please bring her back.
PBS should be ashamed. Sexism & censorship rolled up into one. Was this decision even thought through completely? Why didn't anyone THINK?! It doesn't make any sense! Get a clue PBS!
I support petition because Melanie's actual work ethics are being overlooked entirely. What she did years ago was do a job as her then employer required. It was not lewd, and was actually safe sex practiced during WWII.
My 2-year-old daughter showed great affection for Melanie while she was on the air. While I doubt she cares who hosts the show, I'm equally certain she isn't going to be Googling for adult-themed videos made by Melanie in the distant past. I think Melanie did a fine job hosting the Good Night Show and deserves re-consideration with regard to her employment at PBS, that is, if she wants to return. You can ditch that stupid star puppet that she had toward the end though. That thing was more annoying than Boohbah.
my 30 month old son and my 15 month old daughter LOVE Melanie. She is bubbly and happy, and she cheered up my children all the time! PBS, This is a VERY BAD DECISION on your part. Very bad. I really hope that you bring her back.
And I also agree with the comments about George Carlin, and Alec Baldwin narrating Thomas and Friends. If you fire Melanie for what she has done 7 years ago, then I believe that you should stop airing the Thomas and Friends episodes that have Alec and George narrating them. Oh, and don't forget about Bob the Builder...Greg Proops is not a very respectable person, now is he?
PBS has lost my respect. and my support.
BRING BACK MELANIE, YOU HYPOCRITES!
