My little girl loves Melanie and is very sad that she is gone. I think PBS is cowardly for not suppoting Melanie. I think the executives should look in the mirror and see what dishonorable cowards they truly are.
because Melanie is a great host for The Goodnight Show and WE MISS HER!!
PBS, Don't waste your time looking for someone new - Bring back what was an excellent fit in the first place. She should have NEVER been taken away!!!
I think if PBS is going to fire Melanie for her past they should no longer air any of the episodes of Thomas the Tank Engine that are narrated by George Carlin or Alec Baldwin because of their past acting jobs. Their voices may contribute to the delinquency of my child. ( Oh thats right they are MEN - they are allowed to have a past!!!!)
My 4 year old cried for 20 minutes when I told her Melanie wouldn't be back. Kids won't hear what she did - let alone it was pretty funny and pretty tame.
the actions of PBS Kids Sprout in this particular instance are the most abhorent form of hypocrisy stemming from a misguided attempt to avoid public censure and becoming fodder for far-right politicos. Ms. Martinez is a gifted actor who served PBS quite well. She deserves much better from the very people who claim to be "enlightened", "open-minded", and advocates of "free-speech". Shame on you for not having the intelligence or fortitude to defend her rather than offer her up sacrificially.
This is rediculous. I cannot believe that they would get rid of a perfect host for this show. She introduced my girls to yoga; to relaxation; to the entire concept of winding down after a long long day. I believe that this type of action only causes more and more issues! Bring her back!
because Both of my children love sprout and Melanie. There is no reason why she should be fired for something she did years ago that was clearly a joke and that none of our children will ever see.
I suport this petition because my son loved Melanie on the show, and it was VERY disappointing and VERY hard to explain her "disappearance"--now we have the obvious writer/actor of Bear in the Big Blue House Fame on there, and JOHNNY knows that that is BEAR and it has ruined that show, and don't even get me started on the Kako from OOBI being shot to heck.
I know my toddler won't be seeing the PSA spoofs so I don't have to worry about him questioning the credibility of Melanie. She is a terrific host. As parents, we all know that we can and have the right to be more than one "person" at any time in our lives. Bring Melanie back.
Melanie is amazing and my daughter loves her. The comical PSA was harmless and no parent is going to have their child watch it anyway. Bring back Melanie!!
Melanie was a great asset to the Good Night Program and I am distressed upon learning about her dismissal. However, my three year old grandaughter was twice as upset and still is. She refuses to watch the show without her "friend" Melanie. As past benefactors of PBS, my husband and I are reconsidering our donation for the future.
I support this petition. The new guy, which I saw last night is lame. My daughter loved watching Melanie and practicing the sign language with her. It is a shame they hired some new weird looking guy with a scary forehead for our kids to hide under the couch from.
My son has been asking why Melanie has not been on Sprout as he has really enjoyed her and keeps waiting for her to come back like she is only on vacation.
you should bring Melanie Martinez back , cause she is the one that makes it enjoyable for the children to watch and learn from the programing . She kept their interest in the show , as an example , my granddaughter has learned a lot from watching Melanie on the program , so bring her back so the children who watch it will continue to learn from her !
I support this petition, because not everubody is perfect and even people at spraut have done something wrong that people just dont know about it. or are you perfect? have you ever done anything on public? on the bathroom something that you know is embarassing? you know you have!!!
I can separate an actor from a role, and it is my job to teach this to my toddler. If people like George Carlin can do children's programming, so should Melanie Martinez.
My kids love Melanie and my little girl cries for her to be back on. Now with the temp the kids are scared to watch him. They run from the room. PLEASE BRING MELANIE BACK !!!
The level of hypocrisy exhibited by PBS for firing Melanie is abominable. I still hear George Carlin's voice narrating episodes of Thomas the Tank Engine and I've seen various "blue" stand-up comics appear as guests on Sesame Street. Melanie was fired unjustly and should be reinstated immediately.
Where's Melanie, should be the montra. Shame on me for supporting PBS. My 2 year old likewise has been asking for her. PBS in it arrogance has become no different than the rest of the media. Lets take away something because it is appealing to children. But we allow the likes of George Carlin, whom you can tune to his lewd comments on any video tape, HBO show or talk show. And this is someone who has been doing this for many years of his adult life. But allow someone to do something in the youth of there life and lets publicly flog them for something that seems so trival to a child. Last time I checked my daughter did not want to know about what was done several years ago. She can best keep up with the show on PBS. My concerns of personal nature, since I am sure PBS posture is to keep face and be self serving and self righteous. So I will keep my money in the future and send it where it has no political meaning
our daughter Michaela loves Melonie. I did not know why she was not on until now 9/13/06; since we did not see her we just stopped watching the goodnight show. My daughter, however; still dances to the "lets make a craft" theme when sung. I hate to know PBS let go of someone so valuable.
My Daughter loved Melanie and cried when she left. Every night she wanted to know when she would be comming back. I have seen the video's in question years ago and there were spoofs and good for a laugh, the double standard that the netwark is presenting is a shame. Back to Nic
Preschoolers wouldn't even know about the movie if the media didn't make such a big deal of it. And the parents that did know about it, well thats another topic....
This is ridiculous! It's ok for former bad boys Ringo Starr and George Carlin to be part of Thomas the Tank Engine but Melanie is fired for daring to work on a show with adult content...seven years ago? Gee, double standard much? PBS, please turn your brains on!
We are the parents of two children (18 months and 30 months) who both adored the Good Night Show and its host Melanie. We find it hard to fathom that a child would have any reason to come accross any of the videos that she did 7 years ago. The children enjoyed her, and this was in her past. My husband and I watch George Carlin's stand-up, and have attended his shows in the past, yet we would never allow our children to watch or listen to his comedy. BUT, he also does voice overs on the Thomas the Tank Engine Shows. He also used to have a viewable character on the show (Mr. Conductor), yet no one complains about him. Bring back Miss Melanie. There is no reason to fire her over something she did so long ago.
Well double standards are alive and well. My Daughter loves Melanie and one of the happiest moments was when she received an autographed picture from Melanie for sending in a picture she had drawn herself. Now she doesn't even care to watch PBS anymore. Thanks for taking away a wonderful memory for my daughter PBS.
I don't believe that her past actions reflect upon her former job with PBS Sprout. No matter what her life is outside of her role should not matter. Do I care that George Carlin is the narrator for Thomas & Friends? No. Would I let my toddler watch a George Carlin movie or comedy special? No. They are two seperate entities.
You idiots, she's an actress in an acting role. Does Ralph Fines not get acting jobs because he portrayed a Nazi in Schindler's List? Why the discimination against women? Give Melanie her job back.
People do many things in their youth that they wouldnt repeat. I do NOT feel that this is something worth loosing a wonderfull hostess to a favorite tv show. If Melanie is replaced & not supported, My family of 4 preschool aged children will NO longer be viewers of "The Goodnight Show" They are already sad enough as it is. :(
PBS is supposed to be for 'veiwers like us' and I don't think ANYONE could care less about a video she did 7 years ago. And who is this guy they put as her replacment? His voice and mannerisms make me queezy. Because of him, I don't let my kid watch this channel anymore.
