The Memphis Animal Shelter has been an embarrassment and travesty for too long. It is run by an incompetent manager appointed by an incompetent mayor and the Memphis City Council turns a deaf ear to the problem. It is time for the citizens of Memphis to force our city officials to address this matter. If there is money on the coffers to waste on new arenas and convention halls there should be money enough to improve the conditions at the Memphis Animal Shelter for these poor animals who have no voice to speak for themselves.

What ever happened to the plans to build a new larger facility in which to house the City's stray animals? What is happening at the current facility is bordering on criminal. There are a number of volunteers doing their best to make conditions better but they are limited in what they can do.

It's time for the people of Memphis to demand the change that has been too long in coming. Many well-meaning people have picked up this torch and then dropped it because their demands fell upon deaf ears. Let's not let that happen again. Let's not drop this issue until our demands are heard and a better facility is provided for these poor animals.
