As a huge fan of many genres of music, I was highly disturbed late last night when I received word that the show tonight at Sandbar in Jersey City for Otep and Suicide City was abruptly turned into a 21+ event. This bothered me because there have been tickets and promotions going around for quite some time stating that it was a 18 to party 21 to drink event. Even though I am 21+, I know a lot of people who had every intention of going to this even that were between the ages of 18-20 and now all of a sudden they are going to be denied at the door. This makes absolutely no sense to me and many others! I know from past experience that these bands are used to playing all age shows very often. It is sad that these people are being denied of a night of music and fun just because of their age when they were already promised, if not already paid, to be there tonight. It is funny how an 18 year old can legally smoke a cigarette, drive a car, vote for a government offical, can go into war and die for their country, but they CAN'T go to a rock show and watch their favorite band perform. What is the logic in that!? So I am asking all of the people who see no sense in this to sign this petition. Support this cause and support the love of good music!

I am 19 years old and I think the majority of the people are right that Sand Bar should have wrist bands or mark the hands of the under aged people for they won't be able to buy drinks, cause if the owners really think about it if these "kids" really want to get an alcoholic beverage they know where they can get it and not be ID. What's so wrong to have 18 to party and 21 to drink the majority of us teens are more mature and civilize then what they think.

that's the biz for you....club owners know they can make more money with 21 and up, since all patrons are potential alcohol consumers, and since people under 21 can't legally drink, they are whisked away...which is totally unfair. There are few places let to see live bands in Jersey City, and the few that there are are pretty much unfit for people to pay their hard earned money to frequent. Hopefully, someome will notice this and do something about it, but don't hold your breath.....I wish all you young 'uns well, and don't stop supporting the rock.

This should be applied to every venue in the state of NJ. This state is really coming up in the music scene and the man should not hod us back. There is something called "wrist bands" the smart clubs that like money and music use them.

WE in Suicide City were dupped into thinking it was a 18+ show...which we hate but had to play because of the Otep tour! All ages is the only way to go.....we apologize but it had nothing to do with us....I thought about not playing but that would have left 200+ people also without a show....my deepest regrets...we are all the same..no matter age, sex, color or life's preferences, Bush or otherwise! :) lol Billy and Suicide City

I was there last night and they were giving us a whole bunch of bullshyt. I had a freind that had a valid Drivers Licence that had expired last month and they didnt let him in. He was 28 yrs old for ****s sake! I had one friend who had a valid ID that she got from the county court and still she was denied, saying that it was not a valid ID cuz they thought it was fake. I was about the only person out of the group that could go in but it just wouldnt be right for the others so i ended up not even going just for the principle of the whole thing. There were about 9 of us that had valid ID but was denied of seeing a good show. I know one of the bands IF I DIE was trying to help us out and was pretty pissed about the whole situation. Fuck the Sandbar! They could of easily got wrist bands for $12 at a local party store or could of stamped us or even easier was to mark us with a sharpe but they had to be dicks about it. I hope that Sandbar really reconsider trying to mend this "law" if they expect to throw following shows which I doubt would bring any other fans to their door.

This is ridiculous. The kids are the lifeblood of this scene, and it's no party without them. When denied access, they simply find illegal ways in or get into trouble outside anyway. Without music, I would not have made it through those years of my life unscathed.

It makes no sense to me to have all these laws in place, and systems for marked hands/wristbands to discern age and keep thigns orderly, yet not give bars and clubs the opportunity to use them. If they're over the legal age to vote, then they are being told that they are responsible enough to decide for themselves, so let them decide to enjoy themselves.

I'm a legal aduly, supposedly. I am going on 20 years old, but I am still treated like a child when it comes to having fun. I know that legally I cannot drink, and I respect that, but when it comes to constantly being denied the freedom to hang out at clubs and bars when events are going on that doesn't really revolve around alcohol, I don't see the point. I am pretty sick of being treated like a child. I was also looking forward to the show at the Sandbar. Great music, live bands, fashion show and more. What's the reason why I shouldn't be allowed to participate? Whatever it is, it's definetly not a good excuse.
