I run a magazine and the music pages are a great way to self-promote and to meet lots and lots of new talent. A similar artists page would work fantastically for non-music based Arts.
I went to a visual and performing arts high school & there were a lot of great artists there, I know a lot of them are here on MySpace & are very talented & would probably love to have their work seen!
People seems to be under the impression that music/musicians is the end to beat all; well, they still need artists to design their record covers, flyers, posters and take their pictures to make them look beautiful. It's time for visual artists to get the respect they deserve...Visual artist are sexier anyway so what the hell.
This is a subject near to my heart as i am an art student and i believe that art is a talent that rarely gets noticed. I enjoy art and do art out of colelge when i get the time. A art space page will give artists the free promotion that they rarely get and it will show others what sort of talent is out there in the art world and hopefully it will inspire more to take up art and express there emotions through it . Its a great idea and i deffinately supoort it !! =)
I think its an awesome idea, its a way for artists to get there work out there in yet another way. this will give all artists so many more opportunities to be recognised and seen.
Because I love Myspace! It has helps us Artists meet other Artists! But at the same time we want to stretch out, if we had the same openness as say bands 'Myspace' would be even more revolutionary. We know you love music Tom, and who are we to tell you what to do. We owe you everything with most the friends we've made and really, you owe us nothing. But Tom, the bigger picture [pun intended!] is just amazing for Artists and none Artists alike. Through you I have heard types of music I never even knew existed because I knew I could 'search' for it! I want non-Artistically minded people to see we are hear. Hear to embrace not just network:-)
Please please please consider this petition. It even makes business sense for you, look how unique your music pages are, why on Earth not do something similar for us Artists. We'll all do a portrait of you if you do in thumbnail form. And you know that will make the news!!!;-)
Yours respectfully and hopefully
Gio
Simply, it's a great idea. Artists need a place to express and sell themselves just as the musicians do. A profile that's accommodating to these needs and a database to search through, will help, greatly, with exposure and also attract potential clients and/or gallery owners.
Go to any attractive, compelling Myspace page and it is the eye candy that keeps you there - Recognition of the contributions of visual artists will only enhance the Myspace experience. A tool that enables the viewer to click on the image and be taken to the artist's page - similar to the action enabled for musicians - will increasde traffic enormously to the benefit of all.
we need somewhere, were our art can be shown! myspace has helped loads of bands, so why not art?! it would be a great place to get feedback as well, save the artists!
if myspace has their "ownership" clause to everything an artist might put up on their personal page, there might as well be "artist profiles" so the artist's can have better exposure and better networking opportunities available to them. myspace has nothing to lose or fear from this. the community here is getting so large and so expansive, its getting difficult to find and locate exactly who one might be searching for. to give artist's the same choices as bands and filmmakers is only fair.
