A large, two-story building built by Southern Baptists in the 1950s of beautiful, locally quarried limestone, with an incomparable view of the city of Nazareth, Israel, Jesus' boyhood home, is being put up for sale.

The spacious villa, owned by the International Mission Board (IMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention, has become the center of controversy between Baptists in Israel and IMB leadership in Richmond, Virginia. The upcoming sale is part of a series of world-wide property sales held in order to raise funds for IMB ministry projects around the world. Baptists in Israel do not dispute that the IMB is the legal owner of the property but they strongly oppose its sale. The facility is currently being used as center for ministry into the city of Nazareth as well as the Galilee.
The IMB has given local Baptists until May 15, 2005 to come up with the funds needed to purchase the building otherwise it will be put up for sale on the open market.

Christians in Israel are a minority within the Arab minority. therefore, they need any possible support to keep going on.
The Baptist churches in Israel aren't rich, and they aren't asking for money. but selling the few properties that they use for ministry can damage their existence and the ministry seriously.

My mother was raised as an orphan on this site. She has lots of memories of her time there. Please don't sell it. I would like to one day go visit it. But I can't if it is not around.

As a Southern Baptist Pastor for 50 years, and a supporter of IBM missions, I strongly oppose the sale of this precious property in the one place our Lord chose to come, and have told Jerry Rankin so.

This seems to be a tragic case of a shift of priorities...

As a Southen Baptist minister, I think it is a sad day when Southern Baptist are not willing to help but are more concerned about money. With the power shift that has taken place in the SBC, money and power are the concerns not helping local congregations. I don't understand why the just don't give it to you.

I hope the people responsible for the decision will realise the very special circumstances for this building and change their minds!

here it goes again... the same like limits the activities in the Baptist village in petch teckva... as some of you said "God will work all things for his good". I urge people to pray about this matter... every one knows how much we need such places to meet and for the services beyond children and youth...

i can't believe you would sell this to raise funds for something. everyone is israel already faces many trials. taking away this would only add fire to it. your organization can find other ways to fund raise.

Throughtout the years,This place was used a lot for the glory of God and salvation of people. I was personally blessed through the use of it and and many people felt the same. Don't stop the blessing that come through the use of this place in the Land where Jesus was raised.

I do know from experience that when IMB sets its mind on something, no human power can change that. Nevertheless, I'm most confident that only the power of the Holy Spirit can break through their hearts and minds and alter the decision they have made. Money can always be replaced, but memories, needs, and the vast possibilities for such a building in and for the ministry are just amazingly great. I do realize your need for the money, but don't you believe that our God is great and can provide another means to getting that money if we are open to His spirit and allow Him to prioritize these matters? I do know that "God will work all things for his good". I rurge you in the name of our Lord and savior to reconsider your decision and seek another alternative to meet your needs. May God be with you.

I am surprised by this decision because a christian institution should be concerned by the salvation of the people living where Jesus was born. Sorry but Israel needs to see evidence of the love of Jesus more than before. Moreover, our testimony isn't different of financial interest ?
