*sigh*...... I've read a lot of the posts that are on the 'getting rid of ‘Powerpets' petition and also on the one about getting rid of 'Neopets'... The way some things are written, it sounds like a bunch of children... Or the staff of 'Powerpets' trying to make ‘Neopets’ look bad, because those posts mostly consist of saying that the staff are friendly and always there for you when ‘Neopets’ staff are said not to be... Now, I can't really say anything bad about ‘Powerpets’ because I had never heard of them until I stumbled across these two petitions... ~BUT~ I saw a post that said that ‘Powerpets’ has been around longer than ‘Neopets.’ So, I went and looked at their site... Right on the front page it said "5 years"... It even had a pic of one of the sites 'pets' painting 'Happy 5th' on the background of the site... ~~~~~This was today Monday, Sept. 24, 2007...~~~~~ Now that's fine and all... But I can easily disagree about it being around longer... I have a pet on ‘Neopets’ that I've had for exactly 2,288 days today... Now... That's 6 years, 3 months and 8 days that I've had my pet... You don't believe me? Go and do a search on ‘Neopets’ for a pet named "Sahlii", that's my pet... I also have friends that have been there for around 7 years as well and the site was also made in 99'. Says it right at the bottom of the page... Oh... And ‘Neopets’ is free to sign up with... And the site was never made to 'help animals' in the first place... It was designed to be a fun place to raise a virtual pet... As for talking about sex or swearing... The site forbids it... They delete any forum posts made of such... Then they ban the account of the person that did it... Ya know what? Anyone can slander what I've said and twist it around... But I don't care... Personally I think that if 'Powerpets' is around to help real animals, that's great... More "power" to them... But as for bashing 'Neopets' and all that they have achieved thus far... That's not right... So what if it's become commercialized... Who cares? They make toys, trading cards and have even made a good video game... Aside from all the other merchandise like hats and shirts and such... That is what the people that play on the site asked for... Even if they had to pay for any of it. And here's a reality check... If you make something that costs money to make, you are going to sell it to make back a little more than what you paid to have it made... That's just plain business ethics and common sense. Also... Just so you all know... No one that frequents the site is ever forced to buy anything outright... It's that person's own choice. And as for any thing that may have been copied... I looked at a listing of games that 'Powerpets' has... I saw at least four games that I recognized based off of the ~concept~ alone... Now what I mean by that... Is that those games were not copied by either site from each other... What I mean is that the ~~concepts~~ of the games were taken and the sites put their own "theme/spin" on them to make them more geared for their own site... Not to disrespect one another... As for getting rid of 'Neopets'... I don't think that would ever happen because the creators of the site would never do anything to mess it up... And I don't think that 'Powerpets' should disappear either... Especially if they really are tuned into helping real life pets and other animals with whatever they need... That's a good thing... Not bad... Oh yeah... One last thing before I forget... "Neopets" has more users than "Powerpets"... ‘Neopets’ has 147,214,602 users and growing... While ‘Powerpets’ only has 849,084 users... That's a very big difference... Well... My points are clear and concise and anyone can say what they want... But hopefully everyone will just drop the issue... It shouldn't matter whose site does what or isn't what... They should both stay active and continue their goals and achieve them... I hope that everyone that reads this has a clear and level head and takes everything here into understanding. ~~I'm ~not~ staff from ~either~ site...~~ AND I AM A NEOPETS USER!!! But like I said before... It should not matter what either site does... Just so long as it's positive and enjoyable!
