Quality secure parking is needed for everyone concerned not just the truck driver. If unsecure loaded vehicles are forced to park at the roadside we will see an increase in crime in the neighbourhoods that these truck parks enable us to avoid.Remeber all drivers are human and need basic life support functions eg food, shelter and toilet facilities.
As a motorcyclist and high mielage driver I appreciate the high standard of driving which is usual for HGV drivers. These people are the knights of the road and are our unsung heroes. They provide so much which is essential to our daily lives. We should give these people our support to help them to help us. A tired driver is bad news for eveyone.
Why are drivers still treated like 2nd class citiziens. We are an important part of the country's infrastructure. How does this wagon hating government think their daily necessities get to the shops. Do something to protect us NOW!
The number of truckstops are getting fewer, those that are left are too expensive. and unsecure parks i.e motorway services, are as known unsecure, I am always getting my sheets cut and goods stolen. We need cheap secure parking.
HGV parking is in short enough supply as it is, don't close this Truck stop, us truckers need places like this and we keep the contry in weetabix, toothpaste and everything in between
Secure parking is essential these days to prevent theft from trucks and potential injury to drivers from these criminals. Tacho regulations dictate stopping at regular intervals for rest, this is better in a safe area where the driver can relax properly.
it is a terrible shame that the people who dream up and enforce the ridiculously strict tacho / RTD rules are not as passionate about actually providing safe places for the drivers to take the rests that they are legally compelled to have.
Because of the legal need to take breaks, the Government should be providing either local authorities or business with land and/or funding to provide safe places to park up.Its a sad truth that land and profit is put ahead of basic facilities for many thousands of hard working drivers in this country.
It's about time central government got off their incompetent backsides, and kept this facility, and others, open, for the health and safety of all that use it.This is just typical of the,'We don't want trucks, but want the goods they carry' brigade.
A valuable source for rest, recuperation and personal hygiene in an increasingly dangerous environment for long haul drivers, this must not be allowed to close. Such facilities are rare enough and becoming rarer.
not only do we have to rest by law surely it cant be so much to ask, somewhere that provides facilities everyone else in society takes for granted...hot food and a shower after a days work?
Reading these comments confuses me. Night Owl are tenants and WANT to stay open as a Truckstop, it is the new owners of the land who want to change it.
Yet another kick in the teeth for drivers who need overnight parking, just take the money and runaway and leave the poor HGV driver to struggle to find other parking, just not good enough, HDC and Night Owl should be made to leave well alone
this petition is so very important, safe parking is hard enough to find as it is. make some "big wigs" spend a night in a truck in a layby and see how safe they feel!!
Yet another kick in the crotch for the professional truck driver, when will people realise how important we are to this country's economy and give us the respect given in other european countries?
As a local resident living in Earith, I support this petition because without this truck stop in our area we will have HGV's parking in random places throughout the region to the detriment of the local area.
It just the same as truckworld thurrock, the cost of land has risen so dramatically that theres easy quick money to be made. All the services are continually increasing parking charges with no regulation on the cost, if we get robbed at the side of the road we are criticised by our employer as to why, we stop at services and are fleeced by the charges and if we run out of time on the road we get an infringement, and if we work hard and go over our hours we get prosecuted, so we get replaced by a polish driver. THATS WHAT WE ALL COME TO WORK FOR !
As a Commercial Transport Security expert I am very aware of the requirement for safe and secure HGV parking areas on all UK main arterial routes. The current shortage of such sites only goes to heighted the loss that will be felt by the sector if Alconbury is allowed to close and no suitable replacement site made available.
