I support this petition.
As an expatriate inside Pakistan, I feel that communication is viable to building a strong nation. Pakistani blogs develop the nation's identity and allow for a global dialogue both on international issues as well as individual perceptions. Thus, blocking these websites is weakening Pakistan globally because people will find it easier to ignore (or never hear) what the Pakistani people have to say.
They should not be allowed to do this;we can not let them. How much control over our lives are we willing to give to the government? This isn't just about some idiotic ban imposed on an entire server to block one blog. It's about our rights, our freedom. The Internet represents that,to an extent.
I support this petition,because I've had enough.
I support this petition. I event sent a message to President from his website few days ago about this issue, but I think it went straight to trash. It saddens me that our government is just brainless and doesn't understand that the people of Pakistan understand their responsibility towards the cartoon issue. I believe No Muslim will ever imagine a picture of Prophet Muhammed in his mind and how would any muslim go to a website to see cartoons. It just doesn't make sense. Our genious government has blocked access to the sites, if you search these cartoons on Google Image search, I believe it will bring thousands of results. Let's see if government will ban Google as well.
Our government is just a bunch of idiots...Why not march to Islamabad?
I support this petition. Banning all sites is not the answer. Instead the media should be used in a more proactive and positive manner to create understanding regarding the blasphemous caricatures issue.
I am outraged by this ban! There is so much useful information on those blogs. Is this the way Prophet PBUH would have acted? You're banning the lot just because of a few, and then you are insulted when the world generalizes that Islam is evil through the actions of a few. You are doing the same thing!
I stongly support this petition.
Banning does not reflect 'patience' which was practiced by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) even when a lady used to throw garbage on him!
Even though freedom of press/speech is useless without political space, they took away the one place where we could vent our anger. Though I support this petition, I hope this action is a blessing in disquise and we as Pakistanis once and for all get everything sorted out, and achieve true freedoms.
The Pakistani Government needs to realise that taking away a basic right of the people is not a solution. It's tantamount to creating more rifts. Unblock blogspot...give the people their right back!
If we in this day and age can deny millions an advantage over what maybe a handful has done, then we really ARE moving backwards where the bad guys get away with things and the masses suffer. UNBLOCK OUR BLOGS.
I support this petition because I support freedom of speech. It´s a basic right of humans to have different opinions and to speak about them openly, no matter how large the following controversies may be. The courts should help secure this freedom, instead of participating in its denial.
We have seen the importance of free speech over and over again in history. Recently, the whole world has witnessed the tyranny of Mulsim countries who do not permit any speech against their religion, yet encourage speech against their enemies. This has to come to a stop.
I support this petition. Where words are freely expressed, thoughts are openly shared. When ideas are freely exchanged, peace may be attained through understanding. Suppressing speech and expression is far more dangerous than any spoken thought might be.
I am deeply concerned with this policyless censorship. The Government of Pakistan needs to have a clear and concise policy for implementation by the ISP's instead of blocking the blogs altogether. I can surely help you find numerous sites that host the caricatures and still can be accessed in Pakistan. So what's the point blocking the most useful and widely used blogging engine BLOGGER? Please OPEN BLOGSPOT.COM and stop discrimination.
We need to maintain a free flow of information ideas and opinions through a free and unbias media. Blogs can be followed by news and print media. Any censorship is unacceptable
The pakistani government has more important things to do than going about blocking sites. Anyway, there are many more sites that show these cartoons, virtually infinite... What will they do???
I am not from Pakistan, but India and I would support this even if it were Hindu deities instead of Mohammed.
Death to dogma!!!
I support this petition.
Now the only voice which was projecting the real and positive image of Islam is being banned. Such a shameful and senseless act!!
I support this petition.
At the same time I do not support banning any website because of the caricatures. I think yhis is the time we should let pakistani people grow and stop treating them as kids. No more parental role from government or any other agancy. If you dont like some place, dont go there, same thing is true for websites. It is extremely counterproductive. How you can expect pakistan to assume a leadership role in the world, if they dont even know what is happening in and outside of country.
I support this petition not only because it is in favor of democracy and basic human rights, but also because it brings to the fore the hidden, hypocritical face of the President Sahib and all the supporters of religious zealotism.
I support this petition. but have yet to see anything in The Dawn yet. I dont know about other papers. >> Suggestion write letters to the editors and fill a whole pages. this is outrageously naive and smacks of undefiled stupidity lingingering around in offices.
