Since 1985, Coca-Cola bottled in the United States has been made with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) instead of cane sugar, as was originally done. This was done due to the artificially high costs of sugar and the subsidization of corn in the U.S.
In Mexico, Coca-Cola contains cane sugar, as the original formula intended. Purchase a bottle of Mexican Coke and you can tell the difference immediately -- sweeter, smoother, and without the sticky unpleasant taste of HFCS Coke. Spokespeople for Coca-Cola will claim there is no significant difference in taste between HFCS Coke and can sugar Coke -- but no one I have ever met who has tasted both has made the same claim.
High fructose corn syrup has also been linked in some studies to increased health risks. This being true or not, HFCS is not the same sweetener, and it takes away the classic flavor from the beverage sold in the U.S.
It's time for Coca-Cola to start selling the product that was originally intended, containing normal sugar. While increased costs are a problem, lobbyists for the company could certainly put pressure on the government to reduce or eliminate the sugar tariffs that make HFCS such a cheap alternative.
This company sells billions of dollars worth of product to consumers each year. Why do the consumers have no say in the matter?

Corn should be on a cob slathered with butter, not made into syrup sweeteners! Put real sugar back in!

They taste totally different. Sadly, I would probably drink twice as much coke as I do now if all coke was made with real cane sugar.

Corn syrup is ruining our nation. Look at our average weight, look at the diabetes cases! This needs to stop, we\'ve been assaulted by corn syrup long enough. Bring back cane sugar!
