This petition will be concerning the "Express Service" Jitneys that go on Route 4 from Paterson to the GWB, competing with the NJ Transit #171 route. Unfortunately, my local bus stop is on Route 4. Here's the truth about them. They drive like crazy, always going 80 in a 55 zone and cutting everyone off. Instead of using the shoulder to pick up passengers, they hold up the lanes that people drive on! They never obey the rules of the road. My brother was once on one of these things, and he got lost and tried to make a U-turn on Route 4! And the drivers don't speak any English. I was on one once, and an Orthodox Jewish guy got on in Teaneck asking if the bus went to the PABT, and the guy said yes! They also play Spanish music loudly, but that's not important. Every one of their buses I've been on has has large amounds of graffiti and stick-on ads in them. And, I once saw a couple making out in one of these things! But here's the worst part. THey have made it easier for violent gangs like the Latin Kings and the Bloods to go from Paterson into Fair Lawn. Because of this, crime in Fair Lawn has increased! I've also seen graffiti on Broadway, which I'd never seen anywhere in my town before. I've even seen scratchitti at the Garden State Plaza! But also, the 9/11 hijackers stayed in Paterson, and they used these buses to get into NYC to plot 9/11! I am not kidding! Also, they are illegal, and their DOT numbers are not registered with the state. Yet they're still on our roads. People like them because they're 45 cents cheaper, and because they come 6 times as often. All my brothers have fallen into their trap! But when I go into NYC, I always wait for the NJ Transit bus. I hate those jitneys, and they really suck. And BTW, their website is http://www.expressbusservice.com.

We beleive that the Jitneys should be banned from Route 4 for these reasons. The above statement is made by the Author. Laws should be made against these things, and their licenses should be revoked. As an alternative, service should be increased on the 171 to every 15 minutes rush-hours and 30 minutes middays and Saturdays and to 45 minutes Sundays. Also, we beleive there should also be enticing alternatives made by NJ Transit for the 171, such as running every other bus via Broadway instead ov via Radburn, or creating some rush-hour buses that go express from the GWB to Virginia Drive and local afterwards. We also beleive that the 171 should have increased security, and that the fare should remain at the current levels so as not to encourage jitney ridership. These suggestions are good alternatives to relying on the Jitneys, which should be banned from running any scheduled revenue passenger service on Route 4 at all.
