I support this petition. The New York City Subway is public property and does not feature trade secrets, proprietary technology or sensitive data. Also, witness the recent shooting of an unarmed young man in Oakland's BART system. Years ago, incidents like this were swept under the rug due to the lack of recorded images. The right to open government and freedom of information far outweighs the MTA's fears.
I visited New York in May 2007 with friends and we took lots of photos including buses and subway trains. The only time we were asked not to use cameras was on the PATH subway. So that other enthusiasts may do the same, I support this petition.
Bloomberg has too much money and wants to tell too many of us what to do just because he thinks he can. This is outrageous. Why do New Yorkers put up this constant infringement of our rights under the hysterical guise of safety when it's clearly an outright violation of our safety and freedoms.
I am a photographer, and i frequent NYC. I think it is utterly foolish to have such a ban in place. It in theory violates the 1st amendment of freedom of speech, what if someone wants to photograph randomly one day for fun, they will be arrested and questioned? Immature and misplaced measure.
It's very true that if a terriorist really is determined to photograph for an attack for example, that person will do so, using any means, including illegal ones that person deems necessary, and do so in ways that most people would never realize.Railfans who like to take pictures are very upfront about the way they are, and people should realize the difference between the two.
I am a railfan from England and will bevery concerned should any ban on photography anywhere in the USA come into force as I will be considered a terrorist for owning a nikon camera.Terrorsists have explosive devices not Nikons!
Typical government hysteria. Instead of taking care of our troops by providing them with adequate health care or armor/supplies to enter battle, they lie and shove meaningless laws down our throats.
As an avid NYC Transit buff,I have always loved watching and riding buses and trains since I was a child. Now as a mature and responsible American I find it absurd that a law like this one exist. And now that I finally own a camcorder I would love to use it to capture my passion and the nostalgia of the NYC transit and the ability to view and enjoy it in the comfort of my home, but this law prevents me from doing so and being very patriotic I would always maintain a certain level vigilance and certainly would record anything that is suspicious and harmful and providing such footage to the authorities.
Since one of the ideas is to split strings not into words, but hopefully into phrases more semantically informative than the words they are made of, doing that better should mean better suggestions, and avoiding what essentially are word n-tuples should make for smaller data and slightly faster querying.
Bonjour! What a super websight! Very refreshing to peruse from where we live in Paris (France). I eat frogs and drink wine. Woold like more informatons on this. Best regards! Mikael.

I got the same tramadol attack... well, not the same, because it was only about 20 comments instead of 90, and i t have any filtering set up, and I just deleted them one at a time... hmm.. the only thing really in common was that it was about tramadol... what filter do you have set up that caught them all?
I always have terrible trouble with comment-related plugins that require me to put some line in the comment loop; I can never seem to find the right spot. Can anyone tell me where I should put the php line in my comments loop? I haven not modified anything much, and I would be very grateful. Thanks!

I am a photographer working for a small community newspaper in Montreal, Quebec and I think that after 9/11 we have acted in fear and tried to ban anything that could give a hint of possibly being used for terrorism.
If a terrorist wants to see buses or something they can just buy a postcard and send it to wherever in the world that they want, trying to stop photographers interested in the the history and life of the transit system is in my opinion rash and foolhardy.
Please come to your senses and have the ban proposition removed permanently.
I was recently pulled over for photographing the George Washington Bridge while on a church missions trip. I was not aware of this law, and there were not enough signs, nor were the existing ones in eye catching locations. I was let go after they realized I was harmless, but my name is on a Terrorist Watch list for a year. I find this to be unfairly ridiculous. If someone wanted pictures of the bridge to plot a terrorist act, they could use google.
I support this petition. For the simply fact, this is total impossible, for the NYC authority, to stop, anyone from taking pixs of MTA buses, trains, railcars, etc. And beside, there are some pretty great shots of people and general activities, on the system, as it is. One need a camera, cellphone too retain, some of this stuff. Just too much for the brain to handle. Lighten up MTA. Next, the MTA will be trying to stop us from downloading system maps to own ipods. Wha' did you say? They are! My bad.
I support this petition. I have been taking pictures of railway subjects since 1988 and object strongly to anyone denying the right to do so. Anyone who really believes that photography of locomotives constitutes a security threat is living in a fantasy world.
I feel very strongly about this, considering my hobby has been photographing trains since I was a boy. Now 200 days before receiving a commission in the United States Navy (currently attending USNA: Annapolis), I have been told by the MBTA in Boston and MTA Maryland that I cannot photograph trains, since 9/11 or since the London bombings. This is preposterous.
