The City of Abilene does not have the right to prohibit truck parking
ANYWHERE except where it would be a clear and significant danger to the
public. City of Abilene, if you pass this ordinance, you will be sued, and
it will be expensive. |

Do you really want to know how this feels? Anyone that supports the law
that nobody is allowed to park their own truck on their own property in the
City of Abilene should not be allowed to park their private cars at home
either. NOW HOW DOES IT FEEL WHEN YOU HAVE TO FIND A PLACE OUT OF
THE CITY, MILES AWAY FROM HOME UNATTENDED, UNSECURE, PAINFULLY OBSURD. You
could not live that way one week. Why should we.... |

I support this petition. Actually the U.S. Dept.of Transportation Federal
Motor Carrier Safety Handbook says in 397.67 (b)(2)A reasonable deviation
is necessary to reach terminals, points of loading and unloading,
facilities for food, fuel, repairs, rest, or a safe haven. What people do
not know, is that the Federal Government overrides all cities, towns,
villages and townships for this purpose. If the driver is fatigued, and
can cause death or serious injury to a person or persons, they shall be
allowed to seek a safe haven, whether it be home or whereever. We also are
going through the same thing with our town, and we expect to win this war! |

I support this petition. We are the backbone of the Nation. If we cannot
park then we will have to stop running. If we don't run and have a
place to park when we shut down then America will be shut down by
truckers. We should have a place to park our rigs even on our own property.
Do Not Let this ordnace go into effect anywhere in Amereica. We must stop
this so called ordnance. Remember if we don't run the economy
stops! |

I support this petition. All commerce depends upon goods being transpoted to
business's by the trucking industry. It is the law that requires
truckers to shut down for their 10 hr break.every business relies on
trucks, every city relies on the taxes generated by sales of goods and
services. I say that no city should be allowed to enforce such an ordinance
retricting trucks from complying with the law.By law each city should be
required to develolpe city property or purchase property to accomadate the
truckers that all business rely on.It should be safe and secure and
maintained.with facilities to accomadate the basic human needs at a
minimum. The people driving commercial vehicles are bring treated worse than
animals. Anti idling laws result in the deaths and jepordize drivers health
not being able to control the temperature inside the cab of the truck .
People have been prosecuted for cruelty to animals for locking them inside
without air conditioning or heat. Do that to a animal and see what it gets
you. |

I support this petition. I too come from a family of truck drivers my
brother hauls cattle and my husband, mother, and father-in-law both haul all
kinds of other things right along with my brother-in-law. so I think the
people who are *****ing need to stop and look around there house a little.
If it wasn't for the truck driver they would not have a home,
clothes, food, water, or even a vechile. Sure these things could be shipped
by train, but how much extra do you think your going to pay for that item.
oh a train can only haul so far who do think carries that stuff the rest of
the way to the stores I guess little elves do. So if you want to complain
about something how about the 1,000's of kids right here in our
neighborhood who are being abused or are starving to death how about that. |

I support this petition. It seems to me that if nothing else, this is a
security issue. We've heard about trucks being stolen, trucks full
of fuel that have been hijacked (similar to loaded planes that were used on
9/11) - you would think this would be overturned just due to fears about
terrorist attacks! Abilene should just put up a flag saying
"Terrorists apply here - we have your unattended bombs waiting for
you!" Sheesh - you'd think this one would be a
no-brainer! |

WITHOUT TRUCKS, AMERICA STOPS RUNNING!!!!
Why is it a "FEW" prople scream, *****, moan or groan
about these 18 wheelers being in their neighborhoods and they are SCARED to
complain about neighborhood criminal activities
or noises?
Why is it ok with these complainers to have belongings brought in by the
18 wheelers but these same 18 wheelers cannot park in town? HA!!!! I think
I will remove myself from being a Proud Abilenian and move out of this
atrosity. |

I support this petition. I fully agree! Truck driving has been in my family
for years! We had the cops called on us for starting an 18 wheeler in our
driveway at 4:30 in the afternoon. Just so the battery wouldn't go
dead! These people who are complaining about these trucks should think real
long and hard! I don't see them complaining about the vehicle they
drive, or the clothes on their back! Hell, maybe the house they are living
in is a trailer that was moved by an 18 wheeler or even hauled the lumber
that helped in making that roof over their heads! Here in Abilene, there
have been children hit on their way to or from school and it wasn't
by any 18 wheeler! So I guess they should ban any motorized vehicle to
drive in the city! My son wants to grow up to be a truck driver, so he can
help lives of other people, but at this rate....he better move somewhere
else besides here! He won't be able to make a living for his family
or do for other people under these circumstances!!!
I think the city Councel needs to just leave the truck drivers alone!
There are no kids getting hurt by any 18 wheelers and the last time I
checked....my husbands truck sitting in MY PRIVATE DRIVEWAY, or MY PRIVATE
GRASS doesn't hurt any of the kids in this neighborhood!!
Besides, I do believe it is US the tax-payers, paying for these paved
roads, but most of all its our own hard earned money that pays for OUR
PRIVATE PROPERTY!! |

We just had our truck broken into. Our CB, which is not cheap to replace
was stolen. We also have had fuel stolen several times. There is no safe
and secure place to park your truck and leave it unoccupied but on your own
private property. Where are the laws that protect our property from being
stolen or broken into?

This is bull! They do not have the right to do that! Thats like saying kids
cant park their bikes in the yard! I live in Brownwood Texas and this is
simply absurd. I had no idea abilene was "that kind
of" city. I am totally appaulled. Why dont they just ban the
parking of huge boats in the city as well. These guys are just trying to
make it harder for a hard working man to live and function peacefully on
his own private property. |

I 100% Agree with the comments made here on this petition. Honestly does it
make sense to ANYONE that a trucker can not park on his/her own private
property? Not to me…. Maybe only if they had multiple trucks and it got out
of hand. But what harm will one or two trucks do in someone’s private
property? I think its are right as a US citizen do park whatever the heck
we want to park on our property as long as it is cause no harm. What is the
harm of parking a truck on your own private property? Let me answer that
for you…. NOTHING. So why is it a city Ordnance?? Does that reason out
weigh the reason of safety and security? Or is this ordnance just nonsense?
Does the city really want unsafe vehicles on the road? |

I am not a truck driver but I agree with all the drivers out there. If they
are not allowed to park their trucks in a secure area and not allowed to
take them home to their own property, then I think they should stop
delivering to the towns that have this type of law. If they don’t deliver
then you would not have food, clothes, cars to drive, gas to run those
cars, or even the office supplies to make these laws. If you don’t have
these things how are the law officials going to get to work to even stop
this. Without trucks AMERICA STOPS!!! Think about it the next time you need
a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread!! Think about it when that storms hits
and you have no power. Think about when you get sick and need a ride to the
hospital!!
WITHOUT TRUCKS, AMERICA STOPS RUNNING!!!!
I was married to a truck driver once and I know what they go through. I
think that maybe if everyone that is complaining about this issue would
take a truck ride for one trip they might understand what these men and
women go through each day to bring you the daily things you expect to be at
your nearby stores to make your life easier!!
It is not just a joy ride out there when they have to deal with crazy
drivers of all types, ****eyed loading docks, and most of all construction
delays and delivery times.
Truck drivers a people too and they need respect and common courtesy.
As far as the idling of trucks, how would you like to sit in a truck with
no airconditioning in temps that exceed 75 degrees while waiting for your
next load or just to be able to sleep for a few hours. When you are driving
your cars in temps like this I am sure you have the air running, they need
it too. They can’t always afford to get a motel room at the drop of a hat
for the few hours they maybe shutdown waiting to deliver or get their next
load to bring to YOU!!
If they are not parking when they are blocking traffic or disturbing the
neighbors I think they should be able to idle their trucks or park where th |

Recently I received numerous visits at my home by several local Abilene
Police Department officers. It was due to an individual living two blocks
away from us who kept calling in to Abilene PD every two hours to complain
about a truck in our driveway. This person lives two blocks away from me
and cannot see our home unless she actually comes to our property. This
woman’s complaints began on the 15th of May and calls were made every two
hours that day. Her final complaint was made in person at the Police
Department Monday morning at 8 AM demanding they force us to move the
truck. This woman was interviewed by local news media but failed to tell
them she lied during one of her complaints about the truck being moved.
She appeared as though she wasn’t really trying to make this an issue but
that she was just trying to make sure the laws were followed or enforced.
Not only did this woman make it her mission to complain about us all
weekend she lied in her complaints and she must have come by the house to
see if officers made us move the truck. Anyone with mechanical sense would
be able to tell you that since a truck has "air
brakes" and the "air dryer" was off
the truck we could not move it until we replaced the dryer. She told
officers the truck was driven during the time it was disassembled. The
truth was that we told the first office that came by on May 15th, that we
needed to replace the dryer and we were leaving to get the part and would
come back to repair the truck. The officer told us to be gone before he
left. The officer left 5 minutes before we pulled out to get the part. We
got the part, came back home and repaired the truck by the morning of May
17th. I made a call during my lunch to the Abilene Police
Department's non-emergency number to let them know we would be
moving the truck. At that time I was advised another officer had been
called to our home again. Tell me why this woma |

A lot of people really have no clue just what truck drivers and their
trucks do for their community. They service each and every individual by
bringing these citizens all of the goods used each and everyday. These
items or goods are brought to you by a truck driver and maybe, but not
limited to gas, food, clothes, prescriptions for the elderly, medical
equipment for your local hospitals and even the supplies used in each and
every local business. This means even the toys for their children or grand
children of those who may or may not be complaining about a truck in their
neighborhood or the individuals on the city counsel that allows such an
ordinance to be written. It is my hopes that educating these people and
having them understand exactly what it is that they are doing when they
pass an ordinance of this kind. It is my prayers that they will reconsider
and toss this ordinance to the side. People need not have such a narrow
mind without a vision for the consequences of such an ordinance in Abilene
Texas, or anywhere else in this free country. This type of control and
dictation of what you can or cannot do need to stay where the dictators,
fascist and other communistic type of governments exist. NOT IN ANY FREE
or God Loving Country Such as what America was founded on or suppose to
be!. I want you to notice that although it WAS NOT THE WILL AND STILL IS
NOT THE WILL of the majority of the people that the prayer be removed from
all schools, IT STILL HAPPENED! WHY?. Because you get a handful of people
who only consider what they want and these individuals could care less
about their neighbors, the rights that they violate and they seek pleasure
in forcing their uncaring will on everyone around them. The key is in doing
things to make it easier on your neighbors and friends, not trying to do
things just to make it harder for them to survive. Care and understanding
grows care and understanding. This all appears to be common sense - just
as planting hate, |
