We, the Students of A.L. Brown High School, find the Uniform Policy of the A.L. Brown School Dress Code impedes our first amendment right. We are guaranteed freedom of expression under the Constitution of the United States of America. As demonstrated by various examples throughout the year, uniforms do not prevent fights, which was one of the primary goals of the uniform policy. We have taken the opposing argument, and broke it down with logic to conclude that these problems that the school uniform policy was supposed to rectify are problems that can only be solved by working directly with students on a case by case basis. En Masse punishment does not work these issues. Most arguments brought up for the school dress code policy aren't solved by the dress code. Here are a few examples of pro argument and our logic that it does not solve these problems:

-Students in the dress code are supposedly going to have increase test scores and passing rates, yet the A.L. Brown High School testing grades and passing rates have continued on their downward spiral.

-The school dress code is supposed to eliminate distractions yet it makes no reference to earrings, hair styles, makeup, jewelry, shoes, and other garments that distract more than a provocative shirt would.

-The school dress code was supposed to help us identify outsiders from entering the school. If the outsider really wanted to 'sneak' in and do real damage, all they would have to do is buy the school uniform.

-The school dress code is supposed to elimnate gang and clique relations during school. No matter if they are in their colors during school, or after school, gangs/cliques are still there, they still associate with each other, and A.L. Brown will not be able to stop that just because of the school uniform policy.

-The school dress code is supposed to eliminate social classes during school. This is not true. Jewelry and extra-garments can show your social class as well as the car you drive to school. If you want to be extreme, you can also say that the type of lunch you buy can outlook your social class.

-The school dress code is supposed to help us prepare for our future careers. Big businesses actually go away from this dress code because it reduces the demand for workers and decreases worker productivity. Most colleges do not require dress codes, yet you require them to wear them in the school beforehand.
