Make YouTube use open media codecs
Published January 22, 2010
YouTube currently is using MP4 to display their videos in their HTML5 player. I am petitioning this sad fact. The web should be an open place where anyone can provide rich media without going bankrupt. Relying on closed source, expensive codecs like MP4 to play our media is almost as bad as relying on Flash. Please people; support this petition, for the sake of the open web.

This petition implies the usage of Xiph's codecs (Theora and Vorbis).
