Whereas the city landfill sites are filling up and will soon be full, whereas too many non-recyclables goods are being put into the garbage, whereas it is unfair for the taxpayers to subsidize the cost of removing multiple bag households, and whereas the city would benefit from increased use of recycling.

Therefore, we the undersigned petition the city of Ottawa to institute a one tag bag policy for the residents of Ottawa, in which households are alotted 52 free garbage tags per year. Additional tags would have to be purchased.

This method of limiting the number of garbage bags each household is allowed to dispose of each garbage collection will significantly reduce the waste going into landfills and encourage residents to recycle. Residents must tag each bag of garbage they have each week in order for the garbage collection to dispose of it. 52 tags are alotted to each household per year, therefore it gives you a maximum of one bag of garbage each week. Residents with medical needs and multiple children under the age of 5 will be alotted extra tags.
