Microsoft has to accept open standards, and recognize that they aren't the only software developers around and that their software might not be the best choice all the time.
please offer full_performace support with OpenGL
OpenGL is the only graphics API used in China Universities
For out teaching goal, if not, we would prefer other OS that support OpenGL instead of windows vista
Although support for OpenGL may be a little more expensive, this is what your customers need. Only a few are truly vocal, but what kind of support calls will you field when Quake4 comes out?
As my PC is used primarily for WWII flight sims and First Person Shooters that use OpenGL, I would be extremely dissapointed if OGL was not supported. It would hinder my decision to stay in the PC market, and as many others, I've spent a lot of $$ on Windows machines for gaming.
Definition of open standard is "what MS avoid using".
BTW, slowing down existing OpenGL apps will damage microsoft too. Think only at people that plays games like q3a, doom3 or the new Quake4, all OpenGL-based...
"(To steal) your potential, our passion. Microsoft"
Dunno if such a petition will work out (just 20 peeps yet?). But here is my vote: Allow OGL running natively with GUI Enhancements on, dont wrap anything.
A sad attempt to win more public support. Game developers should just find a solid API for games and stick with it. All this monopolostic BS makes it uneasy, even for windows users.
Game developers should just say 'we are not developing for windows until they change it back' that would make MS act reasonably normal...
When I first read it some time ago, I couldn't belive that MS would slow their OS down even more. Not only does this kill OpenGL and other open standards, but it is simply "cheating" to make gamecompanies keep creating games for windows only, and to make *NIX-users (including mac-users) keep buying windows to be able to play the latest games. Totally unfair.
MS was always known to be a big buly, but this is a hit below the belt even for windows users. I don't want their DirectX to be used games. I want OpenGL all the way.
i'm a linux user through and through and i know that if MS do this, then games development on linux will be crushed to just id, if even that. it also means that no future companies will want to port to linux since it will be MUCH harder than just recompiling the binaries with linux libraries.
MS should stop Monopolistic behavior. It is not right to kill anything you can't control and earn money on it. MS should change its current policy: “If you can’t win your opponent, just kill it”.
