Oprah Winfrey has told her audience that tipping 10% is okay in our current economy. Servers rely on their tips as their income. Most servers are paid $2 -$4 hourly because it is expected that their main income be from tips. The $2 - $4 hourly mostly goes to pay taxes on the tips. Rarely do I even get a paycheck and if I do it may be $20 for a two week period, if I am lucky. Oprah, what makes you think the economy isn\'t rough for us also? Less people are eating out anyway due to the economy. We do not need those that are going out to eat tipping even less. We still have rent, utilities, and families to take care of. As in my case, many are students, trying to pay their bills and their way through college. We are hard workers, we work long hours and holidays, and most of have no benefits. In one shift, we put up with every personality, rudeness, people insulting our intelligence, and we just have to smile and follow the age old rule, \"the customer is always right.\" Regardless of what guests tip us, we still have to tip out bartenders, food runners and bussers based on our sales, not on our tips. Now I am not saying that if you get poor service a smaller tip may not be acceptable. Oprah, if you think our jobs are easy or that we don\'t deserve more than a 10% tip, I invite you to come spend a day in my restaurant. Boycott Oprah until she apologizes for the comment and suggests appropriate tipping for service.
